Zoom host: Marilyn Johnson
Children’s First Day School takes place every week in the lower level during 11:15 AM meeting for worship.
Please silence cell phones before entering the sanctuary.
Reminder on discernment of messages shared from the silence: Friends in the Meetinghouse and on Zoom are asked to enter worship quietly and settle into the silence. Meeting begins when one or two Friends have assembled. As you enter and join in worship, take time to “center down” and enter fully into the spirit of worship. If you feel the leading to speak, take time to test your leading. Ask yourself, “Is this message from the spirit or is it from somewhere else? If it is from God or spirit, is it meant only for me or for the entire Meeting? Even if meant for the entire Meeting, is now the right time?”
After the closing handshake, we take time for introductions and there are a few moments for worship sharing and joys and concerns, followed by pre-arranged announcements. Preferred practice is to put announcements in the bulletin (you can email office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org). When you’d like to make an after-worship announcement, please notify the person who has care of that meeting for worship, and keep comments brief.

MFM Announcements
Summer schedule starts soon. During the school year, Minneapolis Friends Meeting has two meetings for worship and a mid-morning program every Sunday. May 17 is the last Sunday on that schedule. On May 24, we’ll begin our summer schedule for Sunday programming. This includes a single 10:00 AM meeting for worship each week, alternating between unprogrammed (1st and 3rd Sundays) and semi-programmed (2nd and 4th Sundays). On the 1st Sunday of the month, stay after worship for potluck lunch 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. On the 2nd Sunday of the month after worship, we hold meeting for business 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
The State of Society report draft will be read at the May 10 business meeting, where Ministry & Counsel will seek its approval. Any editing suggestions can be sent via email to Joanne E. The draft will be sent to the weekly bulletin and Google Group lists.

DATE CORRECTION: May 17 (hybrid). Celebration of 2025-26 Academic School Year End. Join Cathy N and children in the Children’s Program for the last mid-morning program until late September. The correct date is next Sunday, May 17 — not May 24, which was misprinted in the bulletin last week.
May 24 (hybrid). Storytelling with Joyful Aging. Join us in the conference room of the meetinghouse or on Zoom on Sunday, May 24, at 11:15 PM to tell our stories. The original theme was “what were you doing in the 60’s and 70’s?” Still a swell theme. Some people want to tell a different story, well, good!
May 24 (in person). For those who are curious about Minneapolis Meeting’s ownership of plots at Lakewood Cemetery, Linda C will lead a tour of the “Quaker section” on Sunday, May 24. The Quaker graves there go all the way back to the 1870s. We will meet near the chapel (straight ahead from the main gate) at 1:00 PM and drive together to Section 7 to start the tour. Bring a bag lunch and we’ll have a picnic with our Quaker ancestors!
May 31 (hybrid). Postcard-writing with the Peace & Social Concerns Committee. At 11:15 AM, after meeting for worship on Sunday, May 31, come to the conference room or join on Zoom to write postcards to legislators. You can bring your own postcards or use those provided.
June 29 (in person). Our Loaves and Fishes ministry provides meals for hungry people in South Minneapolis. This year, we’re serving meals during months with five Mondays. Please plan to assist with meals on Monday June 29, August 31, and November 30. Thank you for your support!

May 8 – 29 (in person). Spring Bird Migration Walks take place every Friday from May 8 – 29 in the early morning, 6:30 – 8:30 AM, at Cedar Lake School Forest. Meet at the entrance to East Cedar Lake Beach on Upton Ave. All experience levels welcome. For adults and teens. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. Contact the Kenwood Neighborhood Organization with questions.
May 12 (in person). Tuesday lunch. Join friends from Twin Cities Friends Meeting and MFM to support immigrant businesses on Lake Street in Minneapolis. This week, lunch is at 12:30 PM at Mama Safia’s Kitchen (720 E Lake Street). Questions? Contact Becky F or Rob S.
May 17 (online). NYM Early Start: Finance & State of Society Sharing. Prior to Annual Session, the Finance Committee offers detailed review of the NYM budget. Attend on Zoom on Sunday, May 17, 4:00 – 5:30 PM.
May 17 (online). NYM State of Society Sharing. Join for worship as groups comprising NYM share their struggles, joys, activities, and spirit. Advancement and Outreach has requested your State of Society and census tallying. Once they are gathered, they will be available on the Sessions website. This is the online sharing and discussion about the themes resonating throughout our community. Everyone is invited to this Meeting for Worship with attention to the State of Society Reports. Attend online on Sunday, May 17, 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
July 7 – 12 (in person). FGC Gathering of Friends. The Gathering of Friends is a week of Quaker community for all ages, organized by Friends General Conference. It’s typically in the summer, at varied locations, and every other year is online. In 2026, the event will take place in Burlington VT. Registration is open.
July 17 – 19 (in person). Do you love to sing? Nightingales is a group of Friends from Northern Yearly Meeting who love to sing. We gather in the evenings at Northern, and also spring, summer, and fall at a camp near Prairie du Chien, WI. Our summer gathering is set for July 17 – 19, and fall will be October 23 – 25. Contact Janet A to be added to the Nightingales email invitation list.
