ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our annual Ice Cream Social will take place next Sunday, August 16 after meeting. All welcome — children, grownups, friends and neighbors.
The Welcoming and Outreach Committee is embarking on a banner project. We want to hang a banner across the balcony of the meetinghouse on 46th Street, a different one for each month. We ask the whole meeting to send W&O their ideas for short phrases that explain our values and actions based on our worship and Testimonies and other sources from our readings. We want banner suggestions of no more than 10 words, and quotes would need to mention the author. Susan H and Keitha will collect your suggestions, which will be edited by Susan, Keitha and Clifford. Please email them to Susan or Keitha. The committee’s purpose is to reach out to our larger community because we have much to share in these challenging times.
A visiting friend from Durham, North Carolina, Sam, who will be here in September, is offering a unique opportunity to experience silence. Sam has arranged an hour inside the anechoic chamber at Orfield Laboratories in the Seward neighborhood — “the quietest room in North America, so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat.” He is generously inviting Minneapolis Friends to join him there on Thursday, September 17 at 11:00 AM. Six people can fit in the room. If you are interested in experiencing a really silent meeting with Sam, please email Joanne to reserve a spot. First come, first served.
The fiscal year for Minneapolis Friends Meeting began on April 1. This year’s approved budget is just under $139,000; $11,583 per month in contributions is needed to meet our budgeted obligations. Thank, Friends, for your financial support of the meeting. You can donate online, find the offering boxes inside the main doors of the meetingroom, or mail a check. If you would like to set up automatic contributions to the meeting, contact John K, clerk of Stewardship and Finance Committee.
Please save the date of Sunday, January 31, 2027 for a production at the Meetinghouse of THE HAPPIEST MAN ON EARTH. John C plays Eddie in this one-man show produced by Six Points Theater, based on a New York Times bestseller by Eddie Jaku, a Holocaust survivor. More details forthcoming.

Mayim Rabim and Minneapolis Friends Meeting are hosting a “Stop the Bleed” course on Wednesday, August 12, 6:30 – 8:00 PM at the meetinghouse and online via Zoom. Rob Allen from the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas is the trainer. Developed by the American College of Surgeons, “Stop the Bleed” will teach you three basic actions to control severe blood: direct pressure, wound packing, and using a tourniquet. No medical training is necessary — anyone can learn these. Uncontrolled bleeding is one of the top causes of preventable death in the US. With this training, you can help save lives. Please attend! If at least 12 individuals participate, MFM and Mayim Rabim will receive free blood-saving kits.
August 20 (in person). Joyful Aging group goes to The Russian Museum of Art (5500 Stevens Ave, Minneapolis) for an evening in the art galleries. The museum will be free on August 20, 5:00 – 8:00 PM. No pre-registration required.
August 31 (in person). Loaves and Fishes. Join other Friends and Mayim Rabim to provide a meal at Great Is Thy Faithfulness Church (1115 30th Ave N, Minneapolis). Minneapolis Friends Meeting, along with other metro-area Friends, are responsible for funding, preparing, and hosting a meal for Loaves and Fishes on months that have a fifth Monday. We prepare dinner (2:00 PM), pack up and hand out meals (5:00 PM), and clean up (6:00 PM). Fruit donations are needed. Email Sue K to sign up for a shift or arrange to drop off fruit. Enter the church via the alley, and find the kitchen downstairs. Volunteers wear hair covering/hats and closed-toe shoes. Food is served to-go. The remaining 2026 dates of MFM’s commitments are Mondays August 31 and November 30.
