After meeting for worship, Joyful Aging is going to a baseball game. Meet at the meetinghouse. The group will leave at 1:00 PM and carpool to the Jack Ruhr field in Miesville, about 35 miles along the road to Red Wing. Admission is $5. Note: a suggestion was made on Joyful Aging’s google group to reschedule due to heat. When this bulletin was printed, it was unclear whether consensus would emerge to go to the baseball game as planned or to postpone. Check the google group for updated information.

MFM ANNOUNCEMENTS
A Memorial Service for Dan J, a member of Minneapolis Friends Meeting, will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 2:00 PM at the Twin Cities Friends Meetinghouse. It will be under the care of both Minneapolis and Twin Cities Friends. Please save the date on your calendar. More information later.
The fiscal year for Minneapolis Friends Meeting began on April 1. This year’s approved budget is just under $139,000; $11,583 per month in contributions is needed to meet our budgeted obligations. Thank, Friends, for your financial support of the meeting. You can donate online, find the offering boxes inside the main doors of the meetingroom, or mail a check. If you would like to set up automatic contributions to the meeting, contact John K, clerk of Stewardship and Finance Committee.
Painting on the meetinghouse exterior will will continue this coming week.
Care and Counsel Committee facilitates pastoral care for Minneapolis Friends Meeting members and attendees, understanding the Quaker tradition that Friends minister to each other. If you’re dealing with illness, grief, a major transition, or a stressful personal problem, we would like to be there for you. Contact committee co-clerks, John S or Ellen S. If a confidential discussion would support you as you make a decision, we will set up a clearness committee with you. Email John to explore that opportunity. July 14 (in person). Monarca Election Defense Training is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at 6:30 PM at the meetinghouse. It provides training in actions to defend the integrity and results of upcoming elections, which are important to the future of our democracy. Please register to help the facilitators plan for how many people will attend. The training is free and open to anyone at MFM, and the wider public. To volunteer at the event, contact Rick V.
July 19 (in person). Mayim Rabim invites Minneapolis Friends to a puppet-making workshop. All ages invited! Gather with friends and family of all ages to create simple puppets from recycled materials. Using toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes, masks, and other supplies, you’ll bring imaginative characters to life with guidance from storyteller and puppeteer Chelly Beaver and Heart of the Beast staff member Elina Kotlyar. Materials are provided, though you’re welcome to bring your own recyclables. Bring a sack lunch to eat outside. July 26 (in person). Storytelling with Joyful Aging will take place on Sunday, July 26 at 11:15 AM in the meetingroom. The theme this time is “Tell About Something That Happened That Changed You.” Like all good prompts, this is infinitely elastic. It can be anything big or small. Keep your story under 5 minutes. Priority will be given to people who did not read last time. Email John S if you need a ride.

WIDER COMMUNITY
Quaker Direct Action (QDA) is hiring a part-time Business Manager. If you or someone you know is interested, please apply by July 31. QDA is a new Twin Cities-based social change organization involving both Friends and “fellow travelers” in the philosophy and strategies/tactics of nonviolent direct action. The Business Manager pays attention to bookkeeping, record-keeping, purchasing, technology, social media presence, and communications. The management team also includes a Program Manager. This job is approximately 20 hours per week with a competitive hourly pay rate. QDA doesn’t maintain an office, so the work will be home-based. July 12 (in person). Mayim Rabim invites Joyful Aging to visit the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) exhibition Modern Art and Politics in Germany 1910–1945. Gather on Sunday, July 12, at 1:00 PM in the lobby (2400 Third Ave S, Minneapolis). Please purchase a ticket for the 1:15 PM entry time. Admission to this exhibit costs $20, and Mayim Rabim can offer subsidies if cost is a barrier.
July 14 (in person). Lunch at Immigrant Restaurants. Hungry for connection? Join Friends from TCFM and MFM to support our immigrant business community. This lunch will be Tuesday, July 14 at 12:30 PM. We’re again venturing away from Lake Street to Indian Kitchen (272 Snelling Ave S, St Paul). Questions? Contact Anne H. July 16 (in person). Are you interested in helping LGBTQ people seeking refuge in Minnesota? MN Welcoming Village is a community coalition that supports gender diverse folks who are fleeing to MN from unsafe states by offering mutual aid and community building. Opportunities to support new people include housing, financial, social and logistical support. Come to Queermunity (3036 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis) on Thursday, July 16, 6:30 – 7:30 PM to learn how you can get involved. Register here for the meeting. July 18 (in person). Song Circle, which includes a few MFM friends, will be hosted by Kate Coon this month. Gather at Walker Place (3701 Bryant Ave S, Minneapolis) at 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 18.
You can ask to be buzzed in at the front door, or you can come directly to the patio at the back of the building on Aldrich Ave S. If you’d like, bring a snack or a dish to share, for after we sing. Bring your own eating and serving utensils. Bring a lawn chair if it’s convenient. (There are some chairs on the patio.) Bring a friend, your voices, song books (e.g., “Rise Up Singing” or “Rise Again” or your favorite), song sheets, guitars, ocarinas or basses. Call or text Marilyn J with questions.
August 6 (online). “The Loneliness of the Pilgrim: A Public Minister’s Testimony from the National Peace Walk.” This free event is sponsored by the Friends Incubator for Public Ministry. This year’s National Peace Walk will reach Minneapolis in November, visiting communities along the way that have had lengthy confrontation with ICE agents since 2025. Come to a conversation on Zoom with organizer and filmmaker ross brubeck on Thursday, August 6 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Registration required.
August 9 – 15, 2026 (in person). Bearing Witness, Building Power is the theme for this year’s People Camp, held August 9 – 15 near Park Rapids. The week’s workshop will address our moment in history, with workshop leaders experienced with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theater, BareBones Puppet Theater, Joanna Macy’s work on climate change despair, and non-violent direct action campaigns, through Quaker Direct Action. August 10 – 17 (hybrid). Conscientious Objection: Is This for You? Effective December 18, 2026, eligible males (assigned at birth) aged 18 to 25 will be automatically registered for the military draft pool, removing the need to register manually. How do we respond as Friends, and prepare young people in our lives and communities? Join Friends for this interactive workshop for teens and young adults of any gender, as well as all interested adults or mentors of any age. Diversity of participants enriches discussion, and personal participation in war includes everyone. Curt Torell will facilitate this workshop, a collaboration by Quaker Religious Education Collaborative, Durham Friends Meeting, and Quaker House. The workshop will take place over the course of three sessions: August 10, 13, and 17 from 6:00 – 7:00 PM Central Time. Register to attend online or in Durham, NC.
September 25-26 (hybrid). MFM hosts NYM Fall Interim Session on Friday and Saturday. The hybrid session will also welcome online Zoom attenders. Friends from across Northern Yearly Meeting are invited to gather for worship, fellowship, and the conduct of Yearly Meeting business.
