MFM ANNOUNCEMENTS
The presiding Co-Clerks kindly request if you have items for the Monthly Meeting for Business agenda, that you please get them to Lolly and Jane no later than the first Sunday of the month in order to appear on the agenda for the Monthly Meeting for Business the following Sunday. Thank you!
The Peace and Social Concerns Committee includes our whole meeting. We all seek peace, and we all have concerns about our society’s direction. The committee has an open meeting each month to hear Friends’ ideas about how we can work together for a better world. Next meeting is online on Monday, July 27 at 7:00 PM.
Rather than hosting its usual monthly group, the Deep Inner Work of Racial Justice group will be attending the Monarca Election Defense training in lieu of a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, July 14.
The new fiscal year for Minneapolis Meeting began on April 1. This year’s approved budget is just under $139,000; $11,583 per month in contributions is needed to meet our budgeted obligations. Thank, Friends, for your financial support of the meeting. You can donate online, find the offering boxes inside the main doors of the meetingroom, or mail a check. If you would like to set up automatic contributions to the meeting, contact John K, clerk of Stewardship and Finance Committee.

June 29 (in person). Loaves and Fishes. Join other Friends as well as Mayim Rabim to provide a meal at Great Is Thy Faithfulness Church (1115 30th Ave N, Minneapolis). Minneapolis Friends Meeting, along with other metro-area Friends, are responsible for funding, preparing, and hosting a meal for Loaves and Fishes on months that have a fifth Monday. We prepare dinner (2:00 PM), pack up and hand out meals (5:00 PM), and clean up (6:00 PM). Fruit donations are needed. Email Sue K to sign up for a shift or arrange to drop off fruit. Enter the church via the alley, and find the kitchen downstairs. Volunteers wear hair covering/hats and closed-toe shoes. Food is served to-go. Looking ahead, MFM’s next commitments are Mondays August 31 and November 30.
July 5 (in person). All-Meeting Potluck is once a month on first Sundays. During the summer, it starts at 11:00 AM. Come after meeting for worship for friendly food and conversation at the potluck downstairs. New attender or seasoned member – all are welcome whether you brought anything or not! If you bring a dish, please label ingredients so everyone can participate without worry.
July 12 (in person). Joyful Aging goes to a baseball game. On Sunday, July 12, Joyful Aging is making an excursion outside the city. Meet at the meetinghouse. We’ll leave at 1:00 PM and carpool to the Jack Ruhr field in Miesville, about 35 miles along the road to Red Wing. Admission is $5.
July 14 (in person). Monarca Election Defense Training is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at 6:30 PM at the meetinghouse. It provides training in actions to defend the integrity and results of upcoming elections, which are important to the future of our democracy. Please register to help the facilitators plan for how many people will attend. The training is free and open to anyone at MFM, and the wider public. To volunteer at the event, contact Rick V.
July 19 (in person). Mayim Rabim invites Minneapolis Friends to a puppet-making workshop. All ages are invited! Gather with friends and family to make simple puppets from recyclable materials. Bring interesting recyclables, and a sack lunch to hopefully eat outside. This free activity is on Sunday, July 19, 12:30 – 2:30 PM, at the meetinghouse, facilitated by Chelly Beaver and Elina Kotlyar of In The Heart of the Beast. To ensure there are enough materials, RSVP appreciated (office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)mayimrabim.org).

Action items from the Peace and Social Concerns Committee: There are so many pressing issues on so many fronts, don’t let that keep you from taking meaningful action! Below are three actions you can take to protect Minnesota’s environment and Indigenous rights.
1) Contact your Congresspeople about Copper-Sulfide Mining Legislation (H.R. 9171 Sec. 441). This month, the House Appropriations Committee passed a spending bill that would hand two federal mineral leases directly to Antofagasta — no environmental review, no public comment, no judicial review, no state control. A provision buried in a budget bill, written for the benefit of a Chilean mining conglomerate. Call or write to your member of Congress and tell them to vote NO on any version of the FY27 Interior and Environment spending bill, H.R. 9171 Sec. 441, that reinstates these Twin Metals leases. Send messages to your Congressional representatives.
2) Comment on the Magellan Pipeline permit (Docket No. 23-109). This pipeline threatens the Pipestone National Monument; Indigenous autonomy, and religious and cultural customs; rare and endangered species; and Minnesota’s environment. Find a comment template through MNIPL. For more info to customize your comment, see Rise & Repair and Native Organizers Alliance‘s websites.
3) Webinar to protect wild rice, and the Mississippi and St. Croix watersheds from Talon Mines. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will open a critical public comment period in July on the proposed Talon Metals/Rio Tinto sulfide-ore nickel mine in Aitkin County. Your comment is needed to protect the heart of Minnesota’s wild rice abundance, the Mississippi and St. Croix River watersheds. Learn more so you can engage effectively with this issue by attending a webinar this Sunday, June 30, 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Register for the Zoom link.
OFFICE HOURS
The Office Manager will be in the office on Sunday, June 28, 9:30 AM – noon; Thursday July 2, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Friday, July 3, 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM. Is there something you’d like included in upcoming bulletins? Weekly deadline for bulletin items is noon Thursday. Please call the office (612-926-6159) or send your announcement by email (office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org).
The Children and Families Coordinator has the following office hours:
On Thursdays noon – 4:30PM, she is available by text, phone call or email (canagler(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)gmail.com, 507-261-9462). On Sundays 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM, she is at the Meetinghouse in person.
