MFM ANNOUNCEMENTS
Help distribute website survey to newcomers. The Web Design Committee is grateful that many experienced Friends have already filled out the survey about the Meeting’s website. We especially need more feedback from attenders and new Friends who started coming to the Meeting in the past couple years. Please encourage new people to share their valuable perspectives. You can fill out the survey online or find a printed copy at the meetinghouse. Extended deadline: Sunday, May 3, midnight. https://bit.ly/MFMwebsurvey
Paid job opportunity: Substitute office manager. Occasionally, the office manager takes time off. The Liaison & Review Committee seeks a person within the Meeting who has a flexible schedule and is willing to cover essential duties in the office as needed. Compensation is $20/hour. Interested? Contact Rae C by Friday, May 1. The job description is on the info table.
Want to donate funds to the Meeting? Gifts of all amounts are meaningful and appreciated. Donations are used for operational expenses and to support programming, outreach, and ministry. One-time and recurring contributions are accepted. Click here if you’d like to donate online or learn more about financial giving.
Nearly fifty years ago, Roland and Zephyra Shepherd established a fund to help future Meeting folks with their education costs. The deadline to apply to the Shepherd Scholarship this year is June 1, 2026. Please apply for this scholarship if you’ve been active and contributing to Minneapolis Friends Meeting for five or more years, or your parents have been. Contact Allen with questions.
May we take your photo? Sue, the Meeting photographer, is taking photos of individuals and families so that Welcoming and Outreach Committee can update the community portraits on the meetinghouse bulletin board. Please meet Sue in the south hall immediately after semi-programmed meeting for worship this Sunday, and she’ll take your photo. We’d love to include newcomers who are attending regularly, as well as members and long-time attenders.

WIDER COMMUNITY
Northern Yearly Meeting is for families! NYM gathers regional Quakers over Memorial Day weekend, May 22 – 25. There is a lot of Quaker activity for grown-ups, but for kids, NYM is typically a romping good time. Children generally love the magic of campfires, boating, swimming, lively games, and programs where they learn to treat each other respectfully while having fun and living out Quaker values. Teens hold their own business meeting to make decisions and rules, and friendships often develop as they share both serious and frivolous time together. For parents, a support group explores parenting challenges generally, and parenting as Quakers. It will be led by a seasoned Friend who has been facilitating Quaker parent support groups online for years now. You can read a description of what happens at NYM, and find more details and registration links in the 2026 brochure. If you have trouble with the links, go to https://NorthernYearlyMeeting.org.
“No Kings” signs available. The Minnetonka Rising Indivisible group has produced lawn signs and posters that say “NO KINGS” in anticipation of the May 1 and future protests. If you would like to have either or both of these, they will be available from Jacque W and Ken S after semi-programmed Meeting today. A pay-as-you can donation is suggested to defray printing costs ($10 per lawn sign; 25 cents per poster).
Quaker Finance for Ecological Justice. Over 100 Quakers joined Quaker Environmental Witness and speakers Vit Mateju and Arne Springorum for a webinar whose recording is now available. Imagine what we could do with the billions in Quaker assets? This is the heart of the Applied Economy (R)Evolution Institute’s radical campaign across Quakerdom: to get us to move all Quaker assets out of the stock market entirely starting now in 2026 and reinvest them in real communities. Watch at this link.
April 25 (hybrid). Deepening Our Worship During Quaker Meeting. Pendle Hill hosts a hybrid workshop led by Ingrid Lakey, Eileen Flanagan, and Dwight Dunston. You’ll gain tools to support you to ground, and to support the body to stay connected to spirit. Queries include, “When have I experienced spirit in meeting for worship? When have I felt disconnected?” The workshop will take place Saturday, April 25, 8:30 – 10:30 AM Central Time. Free and open to the public; registration required. Register on Pendle Hill’s website.
April 28 (in person). Tuesday lunch. Join friends from Twin Cities Friends Meeting and MFM to support our immigrant business community on Lake Street in Minneapolis. This week, lunch is at 12:30 PM at Himalayan (2910 E Lake Street). Questions? Contact Becky F or Rob S.
April 30 (in person). Women and Nonviolence: Waging Peace at Home and Abroad. An evening of food, music and inspiring stories about the way we responded to the ICE occupation and tragedies in Minnesota. Who are we in this connectedness? What is ours to do in this existential moment? What future are we creating? This event is on Thursday, April 30, 4:00 – 9:00 PM at the Carondelet Center (1890 Randolph Ave, Saint Paul). Dinner provided, sliding scale tickets available.
May 4 (hybrid). “Bands of Humble Prophets”: Radically Faithful Quakers During the Early Cold War, a Pendle Hill First Monday Lecture with Jim Fussell. Free to attend; registration required. This presentation invites listeners to consider how small communities, grounded in spiritual conviction rather than ideology, can help reshape public life with courage and clarity. The lecture will be streamed live and available as a recording on Pendle Hill’s YouTube channel. Join live on Monday, May 4, 6:30 – 8:30 PM Central.
May 8 – 29 (in person). Spring Bird Migration Walks take place every Friday from May 8 – 29 in the early morning, 6:30 – 8:30 AM, at Cedar Lake School Forest. Join lifelong bird enthusiast David McIntosh and experience the songs, colors, and movement of migrating birds in one of Minneapolis’ most beautiful natural areas. Meet at the entrance to East Cedar Lake Beach on Upton Ave. All experience levels welcome. For adults and teens. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. Contact the Kenwood Neighborhood Organization with questions.
May 18 – October 5 (online). Economic Inequality Study Group. Quaker Direct Action is convening a study group. The group will study the economic inequality we are experiencing today, how we got here, and visions and solutions. Meetings are every two weeks on Mondays at 7:00 PM on Zoom. Register to participate.
