TODAY’S WORSHIP AND PROGRAM
For the Zoom link to Sunday programming, please email office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org.
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM Unprogrammed Meeting for Worship
Zoom host: Lavender J
10:15 AM – 11:00 AM Nominating Committee seeks your feedback
The Committee is seeking feedback from membership on how our committee structure is working and how Friends experience service within the Meeting. The committee is especially interested in hearing:
- How Friends have experienced committee service — what feels supportive, meaningful, or challenging
- Whether current committee roles align with people’s gifts, energy, and availability
- What might help committees function more sustainably and joyfully
- Any hopes or concerns about how we invite, support, and release Friends from service
This is not about evaluating individuals, but about listening together for how the Spirit may be guiding us in caring for one another and for the work of the Meeting. Your reflections will help inform the Nominating Committee’s ongoing discernment.
Zoom host: John K
11:15 AM – 12:15 PM Youth and children lead intergenerational worship
Twin Cities Friends middle school is joining Minneapolis Friends Meeting youth for the first time on Sunday, February 1 at 11:15 AM for intergenerational worship at our meetinghouse. Our middle schooler Elise M will speak on Testimonies. Groups will play/collaborate to answer a child-guided query.
Musicians: Lavender Jeffries, Tom Wells
Zoom host: John K
12:15 PM All-Meeting Potluck
Stay after semi-programmed meeting for worship for friendly food and conversation at the potluck downstairs. New attender or seasoned member – all are welcome whether you brought anything or not! If you brought a dish, please label ingredients so everyone can participate without worry. Families are making an effort to come on first Sundays. Don’t forget young palates when deciding what to bring! There is a potluck every first Sunday.
MORE WORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT MFM
Sharing the Spirit, held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning, is a brief centering time that is open to everyone. We gather at approximately 8:57 AM for ten-minute worship (online, cameras off) beginning at 9:02 AM. HOLD IN THE LIGHT
Connie A said, “hold our family in the light, at the death of my stepson Steve.”
Hold in the light people who are grieving or suffering from injustice, racism, colonialism, and displacement. Hold in the light people in positions of power. Is there a person or community that you would you like to ask the meeting to hold in the light? Email their name to office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org to include in the bulletin.
MFM ANNOUNCEMENTS
TODAY! Welcoming and Outreach plans to revamp the outdated photo directory board, starting with new attenders, or anyone who has never had photo taken. Please meet Sue K in the east hall after meeting for worship this Sunday, and she’ll take your photo. She promises not to make you too late for potluck.
TODAY! Contribution letters for 2025 are available. Save the meeting postage and pick yours up from Carolyn V.
For those who attend early worship: Come at 8:00 AM for breakfast together on the third Sunday, February 15! A simple breakfast — vegetarian and vegan — will be offered. This is an experiment to offer more fellowship for nine o’clockers! We can decide if we would like to continue and move to a more planned potluck format. For February 15, just come at 8:00! It would be helpful to let Carolyn know if you plan to come to make sure we have enough food.
Contributions update: First quarter contributions totaled $26,217, about 19% of our budget. Second quarter contributions totaled $14,549, about 10.5% of the budget. Contributions of $97,567 (70% of the budget) – or $16,261 per month – are needed to meet our budgeted obligations. Thank you, Friends, for your generous financial support of the meeting. There is now a donate tab on MFM’s website (click here). If you would like to set up automatic contributions to the meeting, contact Carolyn V, clerk of Stewardship and Finance Committee.
MFM EVENTS
In addition to the special events listed below, there are ongoing groups in the meeting. Pick up a flyer about these ongoing groups from the information table in the meetinghouse hallway, or email the office to request a copy.

February 15 (hybrid). Quaker Direct Action Update. Friends are busy building the new organization Quaker Direct Action, which works to foster peace and justice by using the principles and practices of nonviolent action to address societal problems and the root causes of injustice. Come hear all about it at the mid-morning program on Sunday, February 15 at 10:15 AM.
WIDER COMMUNITY
In addition to the following events, there are many Quaker events held on a regular schedule in the wider community, and national organizations that offer online resources. January 31 (online) Special NYM Meeting for Worship with Attention to Immigration Enforcement. Northern Yearly Meeting (NYM) invites everyone to join an hour of worship followed by a brief time of sharing. This is an opportunity to gather together, worship, and connect with one another, on Saturday January 31 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM. Click here to join on Zoom, or use meeting ID 898 4554 6206, passcode 739668. To join by phone for audio-only, dial (305) 224-1968 and enter the meeting ID and passcode when prompted.
February 3 (in person). Meet for lunch at Mama Safia’s Kitchen. Please join friends from Twin Cities Friends Meeting and MFM to support our immigrant business community along Lake Street in Minneapolis. We’ll do this by meeting for lunch on Tuesday, February 3 at 1:00 PM at Mama Safia’s Kitchen (720 E Lake Street). Questions? Contact Rob S.
February 8 (in person). Opposing Antisemitism in 2026. Dr. Ray Himmelman and Daniel Lentz of Jewish Voice for Peace will present a training on Sunday, February 8, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Friends sometimes express confusion over the difference between anti-Zionism and antisemitism. This talk will explain competing definitions of antisemitism; how antisemitism manifests in the context of Zionism; and recognizing and opposing true antisemitic threats. The event will take place at Hamline United Methodist Church, 1514 Englewood Ave, St. Paul. Childcare and lunch provided. Click here to RSVP.
Friends School Plant Sale is almost entirely volunteer-run. More than 1,800 people are needed to do everything from building display tables, to shelving plants, to tallying plants. Online signup to volunteer goes live on February 1 at 8:00 AM. Click here for more on the Friends School Plant Sale website.
Friends Committee on National Legislation is the Quaker lobby in Washington DC. The Twin Cities Advocacy Team of FCNL encourages Friends to look at the FCNL.org website for current news of lobbying to end the federal siege of Minneapolis. FCNL is advocating to defund the Department of Homeland Security, to demand that the Border Patrol leave, and to pass a Protecting Safe Spaces bill, which would keep agents out of schools, healthcare facilities, and religious spaces. Because budget bills require 60 votes to get through the Senate, these goals are achievable.
OFFICE HOURS
The Office Manager, Ariel E, will be in the office in the afternoons on Monday, February 2; Thursday, February 5; and Friday, February 6; as well as the morning on Sunday, February 8. Is there something you’d like included in upcoming bulletins? Weekly deadline for bulletin items is noon Thursdays. Please call the office (612-926-6159) or send your announcement by email (office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org).
The Children and Families Coordinator, Cathy N, is typically in the meetinghouse on Fridays 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. She is also available by phone or email, working remotely, on Wednesdays 2:30 – 5:00 PM and Thursdays 3:30 – 5:00 PM.
