complete its gesture
so much is in bud.”

MFM EVENTS
In addition to the special events listed below, there are ongoing groups in the meeting. Pick up a flyer about these ongoing groups from the information table in the meetinghouse hallway, or email the office to request a copy.
January 23 (hybrid). Labor Church. We are hosting a “Labor Church” evening of protest songs on Friday, January 23 from 7:30 – 9:00 PM at the Meetinghouse. The workshop will be led by Salem H, a recent Quaker Voluntary Service fellow and attender at Multnomah Friends Meeting in Portland, OR. The Labor Church workshop is essentially a time for singing and reflection, based on the idea that labor itself is a holy act. Participants learn to sing union and protest songs, with silence between each song when attenders can share thoughts that have come up from the songs. Participants are encouraged to bring instruments if they’d like to play along in accompaniment as the songbooks have chords along with lyrics. Snacks will be available. Join us at the meetinghouse or click here to attend on Zoom. Please invite others in the wider community.
February 1 (hybrid). Youth and children lead intergenerational worship. Twin Cities Friends middle school is joining Minneapolis Friends Meeting youth for the first time on Sunday, February 1 at 11:15 AM for intergenerational worship at our meetinghouse. Our middle schooler Elise M will speak on Testimonies. Groups will play/collaborate to answer a child-guided query. Please come to this wonderful gathering! Send your questions to Cathy N (canagler(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)gmail.com).
February 1 (hybrid). Nominating Committee seeks your feedback at the mid-morning program that will take place 10:15 – 11:00 AM on Sunday, February 1. The Committee is seeking feedback from membership on how our committee structure is working and how Friends experience service within the Meeting. The committee is especially interested in hearing:
1) How Friends have experienced committee service — what feels supportive, meaningful, or challenging
2) Whether current committee roles align with people’s gifts, energy, and availability
3) What might help committees function more sustainably and joyfully
4) Any hopes or concerns about how we invite, support, and release Friends from service
This is not about evaluating individuals, but about listening together for how the Spirit may be guiding us in caring for one another and for the work of the Meeting. Your reflections will help inform the Nominating Committee’s ongoing discernment.
February 1 (in person). All-Meeting Potluck is once a month on first Sundays. During the academic year, it starts at 12:15 PM. Come after semi-programmed meeting for worship for friendly food and conversation at the potluck downstairs. New attender or seasoned member – all are welcome whether you brought anything or not! If you brought a dish, please label ingredients so everyone can participate without worry.
October 10 (in person) Fall Together, an annual retreat held by MFM, is a wonderful opportunity to gather with Friends and rest, relax, renew, re-connect and relish time together in the great outdoors. Camp Committee has reserved the Pavilion at Fish Lake Regional Park in Plymouth, MN, a beautiful setting familiar to those who have attended Fall Together in recent years. Please save the date: Saturday, October 10, 2026.
WIDER COMMUNITY
In addition to the following events, there are many Quaker events held on a regular schedule in the wider community, and national organizations that offer online resources. You can pick up a copy of a flyer about some of these opportunities from the information table in the meetinghouse hallway, or email the office to request a copy. Upcoming dates for regularly scheduled groups include:
January 23. Organizers of the statewide action — a group of faith leaders and unions — have asked Minnesotans not to work, spend money or go to school, in protest of ICE’s presence in communities across the state. This action will take place on Friday, January 23, flexing Minnesotan’s economic power in unified opposition to ICE. Click here to read more on ICE Out of Minnesota’s website.
January 25 (online). The Quaker Call to Action’s national zoom call features Phil Gulley, a well-known Quaker pastor, writer, and humorist. Phil will address the topic “From Exhaustion to Enthusiasm: Joyful Resistance in a Time of Tyranny.” You’re invited to tune in Sunday, January 25, 6:00 – 7:30 PM. Click here to register for the zoom link.
January 27 (online). American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) liaisons share a quarterly update. Come hear about the Love as Action silent vigil series, in which Friends across the country are gathering in silent worship in public spaces to give witness to the rising authoritarianism and oppression in the United States. The next actions will be held February 21 – 22, and March 21 – 22. Click here to register on AFSC’s website to attend this call, which will be Tuesday, January 27, 7:00 – 8:00 PM ET.
January 29 (online) 7:00 PM. Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL)’s policy and advocacy teams will share major legislative opportunities, and opportunities where you can make a real difference. Grassroots pressure will be critical in the months ahead for our collective work for peace and justice. Click here to register on FCNL’s website to join the call or receive the recording and resources.
Friends School Plant Sale is almost entirely volunteer-run. More than 1,800 people are needed to do everything from building display tables, to shelving plants, to tallying plants. Online signup goes live on February 1 at 8:00 AM. Click here for more on the Friends School Plant Sale website.
