MFM ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ad Hoc Safety Committee? Friends! Are we taking reasonable care for the safety of persons attending worship and other activities at the meetinghouse? This will be discussed at this Sunday’s meeting for business. Please find a copy of the Consider Safety Committee document at the meetinghouse so that we’re prepared to consider this question.
Friends will find paper copies of the Thee Quaker Project video questionnaire on the table outside the Meetingroom door. If you haven’t completed a questionnaire, click here to do so online, or kindly fill out a paper copy in the Meeting House at the rise of Meeting before leaving the Meeting House. All questionnaires should be submitted by January 11 so that Thee Quaker staff can compile questionnaire results next week. Leave your completed questionnaire in the designated box outside the doors to the Meetingroom. Thank you for participating in this project. Our Office Coordinator, Ariel, will input data from handwritten questionnaires. Please write clearly so that Ariel can accurately transcribe your comments.
Want to donate funds to the Meeting? Gifts of all amounts are meaningful and appreciated. Donations are used for operational expenses and to support programming, outreach, and ministry. One-time and recurring contributions are accepted. Click here if you’d like to donate online or learn more about financial giving.
Care and Counsel Committee facilitates pastoral care for Minneapolis Meeting members and attendees, understanding the Quaker tradition that Friends minister to each other. If you are dealing with illness, grief, a major transition, or a stressful personal problem, we would like to be there for you. Contact committee co-clerks, John S or Ellen S. If a confidential discussion would support you as you make a decision, we will set up a clearness committee with you. Email stuartjohn032(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)gmail.com to explore that opportunity. Other committee members are Mary G, Jeff N, Mary B, and Jimbo L.
Thanks for clearing ice from the sidewalks! David D and other members of Property Committee have been working hard to keep the sidewalk outside the Meetinghouse safer. If anybody else has capacity to help maintain the sidewalks this winter, please contact Property Committee.
Follow-Up to Experiment with Light MMP: Friends who are interested in exploring the EwL process for spiritual deepening and possible participation in a monthly Light Group at the Meeting, please contact Diane B. Those of us involved in the Light Groups have found the monthly gathering to practice this Quaker meditative process, deeply connecting spiritually and with one another. You can also find more information on the EwL website. Click here for that website.

January 18 (hybrid). HIV & Homelessness 101. Come to mid-morning program on Sunday, January 18, 10:15 – 11:00 AM to learn about HIV and Homelessness, and how Clare Housing is making a difference. In the ongoing effort to end the HIV epidemic, why does housing matter? How does housing radically improve HIV health outcomes? And why is it a crucial element in stopping the epidemic for good? This program explores how a Housing First model not only enhances the lives of residents with HIV but also plays a key role in preventing HIV transmission and protecting the community.
January 21 (in person) LGBTQ+ Potluck Lite & Game Night. At Minneapolis Friends Meeting from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Come when you can — some pie is better than no pie at all.
January 23 (hybrid). Labor Church. We are hosting a “Labor Church” evening of protest songs on Friday, January 23 from 7:30 – 9:00 PM at the Meetinghouse. The workshop will be led by Salem H, a recent Quaker Voluntary Service fellow and attender at Multnomah Friends Meeting in Portland, OR. The Labor Church workshop is essentially a time for singing and reflection, based on the idea that labor itself is a holy act. Participants learn to sing union and protest songs, with silence between each song when attenders can share thoughts that have come up from the songs. Participants are encouraged to bring instruments if they’d like to play along in accompaniment as the songbooks have chords along with lyrics. Snacks will be available. Join us at the meetinghouse or click here to attend on Zoom. Please invite others in the wider community.
January 25 (hybrid). Postcard writing with the Peace and Social Concerns Committee. Save the date for the next postcard-writing session after second worship on Sunday, January 25.
October 10 (in person) Fall Together, an annual retreat held by MFM, is a wonderful opportunity to gather with Friends and rest, relax, renew, re-connect and relish time together in the great outdoors. Camp Committee has reserved the Pavilion at Fish Lake Regional Park in Plymouth, MN, a beautiful setting familiar to those who have attended Fall Together in recent years. Please save the date: Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Are you feeling led to explore protest or non-compliance in response to the current administration? Are you feeling unsure of how to proceed or would like to talk to other Friends as part of your discernment process? If so, please contact Lynda G. We’ll set up a meeting.
