Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Comfort with Movement and Dance. Come explore the connectedness of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual parts of ourselves and how we can express spirituality through the body. Facilitated by Jacque and Ellen.

Ministry and Counsel Committee (M&C) asks individuals who feel led to share a prepared message or a reading during semi-programmed worship, to contact John C or other members of M&C. M&C is also looking for closers for both worships. Serving as a closer is a ministry of service to the meeting.

Save the Date! The Peace and Social Concerns Committee will show the film The Best of Enemies on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:30, via Zoom. The film is based on a true story of how an African American activist and a leader of the Ku Klux Klan, and their respective communities, came together in Durham, N.C. in 1971 to discuss school integration The two groups used a process called “charrette,” led by a mediator, to discuss their differences. Save October 28-29 so you can attend the Northern Yearly Meeting Fall Interim Session, held in-person here at the meetinghouse and online. More details soon. Northern Yearly Meeting, a gathering of monthly meetings and worship groups in the upper mid-west for mutual support and nurture. Interim sessions are a wonderful opportunity to hear about what NYM is doing and to experience a different flavor of Quaker practice. Please come to all or part!

Loaves and Fishes, October 31: Join other metro-area Friends, the Ismaili Community and the Mayim Rabim congregation to provide a meal at Holy Rosary Church in S Mpls, 2424 – 18th Ave S. Prepare dinner (2-4:30); pack up and hand out the meals (4:45-6:30,) or clean up (5:30-7.) Fruit donations needed. Covid-19 has created more need and fewer volunteers (and fruit donations.) Email Sue to sign up for a shift to make sure there is sufficient space or to arrange to drop off fruit. Masks, gloves, and hats required; Halloween costumes optional! This remains a COVID risk. SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITIES AT MINNEAPOLIS MEETING
The Right Relationship with Indigenous People group will meet tomorrow night, Oct 10th, at 7 PM. Open to all interested, this group meets every second Monday night. Contact Rick with interest.
The Deep Inner Work of Racial Justice group is sending out a special welcome to new (and current!) participants to the next meeting, this Tues, Oct 11th from 7-8:30 PM. We will begin to work through Resma Menakem’s latest book together, The Quaking of America: An Embodied Guide to Navigating our Nation’s Upheaval and Racial Reckoning. This is a profound and inspiring guide for developing/nurturing an anti-racist culture and community that practices settling our bodies so we can be fully present to our implicit bias and to what is happening in our country. And to respond effectively. Open to all – from the just curious to those with strong interest; those beginning this journey to those who have long experience – and to anyone who has read/is reading Resma Menakem’s book: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies and wants to continue and strengthen this work. Northern Yearly Meeting has an Anti-Racism working group which is hosting three evening discussion (7 PM CT):
– Thurs, Oct 13: Read the proposed NYM Minute about legislation to create a national Truth & Healing Commission about the Indian boarding schools. This legislation is a significant step in accepting responsibility for harms done from the policy of separating children from family and community. Friends have been asked to provide minutes of support for this legislation, which is pending, by Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL Northern Yearly Meeting will consider recording this minute.
– Thurs, Nov 10: Discuss the Paula Palmer video interview with Jerilyn DeCoteau about Quaker Indian Boarding Schools. Watch the interview beforehand at: https://act.fcnl.org/go/125381

Quaker Call to Action – There is concern about the volatile atmosphere in which the upcoming elections will be held. There has been a series of across-the nation, Quaker conference calls to prepare individuals to be a peaceful, constructive element in the midst of this volatility. Resources from these discussions include: a video recording of the most recent ninety-minute session; a slide deck from the presentation; and a resource list which can connect you to actions you may take to protect elections.
UPCOMING EVENT – Register HERE for the OCT 13 national Zoom call, hosted by The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the last national call before the November elections.
Quaker parent mutual support groups provide a forum in which Quaker parents can talk about their parenting and their faith. Parents celebrate one another’s successes and provide fellowship for one another through difficulties. Each group has two co-facilitators who will structure the conversations. Groups are free and open to any Friend currently raising children under the age of nineteen. Groups meet for one hour, via zoom, every-other week, Nov, 2022 through Apr, 2023. In past years, groups have included Friends from many yearly meetings, isolated Friends, and Friends across the theological spectrum of Quakerism. Find more here; register by Nov 1 at this link.
Registration is now open for the Friends Committee on National Legislation Annual Meeting and Quaker Public Policy Institute, “Brave and Constant,” Nov 16-20. Gather to make decisions that will guide FCNL’s work during the coming 118th Congress and to connect with people who share like values. Underlying this whole experience is the worship that anchors our community and strengthens our connections. In-person (in DC) and via Zoom. Learning from Place: Bdote, an immersive, free, learning experience from the Minnesota Humanities Center, is an opportunity to learn more about Indigenous Nations and connect with others seeking to create a more inclusive contemporary MN community.
