We will begin to work through Resma Menakem’s latest book together, The Quaking of America: An Embodied Guide to Navigating our Nation’s Upheaval and Racial Reckoning. This is a profound and inspiring guide for developing/nurturing an anti-racist culture and community that practices settling our bodies so we can be fully present to our implicit bias and to what is happening in our country. And to respond effectively. Open to all – from the just curious to those with strong interest; those beginning this journey to those who have long experience – and to anyone who has read/is reading Resma Menakem’s book: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies and wants to continue and strengthen this work. You can find videos of Resma Menakem talking about the book by searching YouTube.com for “The Quaking of America.” Questions or to get the Oct 11 link, contact Nettie or Jimbo.

There has been a series of across-the nation, Quaker conference calls to prepare individuals to be a peaceful, constructive element in the midst of this volatility. Resources from these discussions include: a video recording of the most recent ninety-minute session; a slide deck from the presentation; and a resource list which can connect you to actions you may take to protect elections.
UPCOMING EVENT – Register HERE for OCT 13 national Zoom call, hosted by The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the last national call before the November elections.

What is Fall Together? Minneapolis Friends Meeting Fall Camp was held for 60 years! We want to carry on that tradition in a different way, with a day event at a beautiful Metro-area park. It’s a time for all to share conversation, recreation, and nurture one another; while partaking of the restorative ways of woods, lakeshore, and fresh air. All are welcome (all ages, singles, couples, and families large or small). We find joy in organizing this time for us to spend together.
Where is Fall Together? Fall Together is held at Fish Lake Regional Park, 14900 Bass Lake Road, Maple Grove. This park offers outdoor recreation in a wooded, lakeside setting. Enjoy boating or fishing on Fish Lake. This park is especially scenic in the fall, when blazing maples reflect on the lake, creating a picturesque setting for our gathering.
What are we eating? Bring your own lunch. Fish Lake Park is a “zero waste site”, so please bring your food in re-usable containers, with cloth napkin, real silverware, water bottle, etc., or take all of your trash home with you. For snack, Camp Committee is providing a variety of choices, including peanut-free and gluten-free, and water. Please bring your own snack if you have other food requirements.
What about kids? While there is plenty of adult level activity, Fall Together is a time when children can learn how people share community, a time for them to grow as members of the group. We encourage everyone to play together! Parents/Guardians DO need to be responsible for their children/teens at all times.
What should I bring? Lawn chair, outdoor clothes, walking shoes, mask for inside the pavilion, timepiece, reusable water bottle, lunch (non-disposable containers, utensils, cloth napkin, etc.), and wear a reusable name tag (from Meeting?). Options–games/toys, camera, kayak/canoe with paddles & life jackets, bike & helmet, fishing gear (license), etc. Please write your name on what you bring to share. Contributions to defray costs are welcome, but there’s no fee to attend. Renting the facility costs $350, and Meeting has this in the budget.
Directions to Fish Lake Regional Park from Minneapolis:
Head north on I-494, through Plymouth. Get off on Exit 26, and turn left onto County Road 10/West Bass Lake Road. In approximately 2 miles, turn right onto Fish Lake Park Road. Continue on this road to the parking lot, which will be on your left, and park. From there, head up the sidewalk to the Pavilion, which is ahead, slightly to the right.
