SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITIES AT MINNEAPOLIS MEETING

Interested in gardening? Meeting gardeners (currently Clifford, Betsy, and Rae Beth) meet at 6PM on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, June – Sept, at the meetinghouse. Safety is Communal: from Fear to Focus workshop. Mary Jean Port and John Stuart have arranged for this workshop to be offered on August 9 – open to MFM members and attenders; limit of 25. This 90-minute workshop begins with an overview of the neuroscience of fear and safety. Through a series of interactive, reflective activities, we will learn how to name fear responses and apply specific coping skills to increase choice in how we respond to danger. Recommended for anyone who has ever felt afraid, (and particularly relevant for parents processing fear with young people,) this is an amazing opportunity to practice identifying somatic experiences we have in response to fears around race and other issues. To reserve a spot, email Nettie or Jim L.

WORKSHOPS, FILMS, RETREATS, PROGRAMS, PRESENTATIONS
There are forces at work in this country that are undermining the equality of all people, the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and respect and care for our neighbors, the planet, and all its inhabitants. What is the Light Within calling Friends to do in response to the rise of domestic extremism, white supremacy, and authoritarianism? Join a conversation, hosted by Earlham School of Religion, TODAY, July 31, 2-4PM (CT ) or a conversation hosted by Pendle Hill on Thurs, Aug 18, 6-8PM. For more and to register, go to quakercall.net/ .
Pendle Hill’s First Monday lecture, Friends and Sabbath in the Time of Climate Change, will be TOMORROW, Aug 1, 6:30-8PM. Friends historically and today have a variety of perspectives on Sabbath-keeping, from rejecting it as legalistic to strictly enforcing it. This First Monday Lecture will focus on ways that practicing the Sabbath might help face the spiritual and emotional experiences of our changing climate. In this moment of potential for a just transition to a sustainable future, practicing the Sabbath may support us as we begin orienting to the community of all life. Free but registration required: https://pendlehill.org/learn/workshops-courses-events/event-registration-friends-and-sabbath-08-01-22/

Friends Committee on National Legislation:
1) Urge your US legislators to co-sponsor the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies in the U.S. Act. The act would establish the first formal commission in U.S. history to investigate and document the policies and practices of 367 federally-sponsored, faith-run institutions from the 1860s through the 1960s. This includes assimilation practices, attempted termination of cultures and languages of Indigenous peoples, and human rights violations. Read more here. For easy access to your representatives, click here.
2) Tell Congress: Resist Wasteful Spending on the Pentagon and Nuclear Weapons. More and take action at this link.
3) Urge Sens. Klobuchar and Smith to cosponsor and vote for S.J.Res. 10 to repeal the 2002 Iraq Authorization for Use of Military Force. Thanks to the dedicated lobbying of FCNL Advocacy Teams and many others, the House has voted to repeal the law that sent us to war in Iraq. Now action is needed in the Senate to end this war authorization to help prevent new, unauthorized wars. Link here for more.
