NEWS FOR MINNEAPOLIS MEETING FRIENDS
Next week is the beginning of the summer schedule: 10AM worship. First and third Sundays, worship will be unprogrammed; second and fourth, worship will be semi-programmed. Monthly meeting will be after worship on second Sundays of the month.
There is mid-week worship every Wed night, 7PM. This Wed, May 25, is the second anniversary of the killing of George Floyd. All are invited to worship. Email office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org by noon Wed for the link.
Ministry and Counsel Committee (M&C) asks individuals who feel led to share a prepared message or a reading during semi-programmed worship, to contact John C. or other members of M&C. M&C is also looking for closers for both worships. Serving as a closer is a ministry of service to the meeting.
People who are interested and willing to learn the new AV system at the meetinghouse are now being sought. Let Terry K or Roger M know if you are interested.
In honor of Asian and Pacific Islander Month, Hmong Pioneers: Honoring the First Wave will be shown online this Tues, May 24, at 7PM. At the tumultuous close of the Vietnam War, the Hmong people in Laos fled their homes, livelihoods, and culture, and began to arrive in the US as refugees. Since then, St Paul has become the largest home of Hmong Americans. See how the first Hmong pioneers learned to survive and thrive in MN. 90 minute film; discussion follows. Northern Yearly Meeting Annual Sessions May 27-30. This year’s annual session will be in two parts:

Seeking Truth, Healing, and Right Relationship: Quakers and the Legacy of Indian Boarding Schools, offered by Friends Committee on National Legislation, will be this Wed, May 25, 5:30-6:30PM. This online event presents Quaker efforts underway to reveal and understand the full trauma created by Indian Boarding Schools and their present-day effects, as well as the current plan to get the federal government involved in creating remedies. Living into the Peace Testimony will be offered by Quaker House an online session discussing the Peace Testimony on June 8th at 6:30PM (CT). There will be a short presentation about challenges experienced while putting action to the Peace Testimony. Register here.

OPPORTUNITIES IN THE WIDER COMMUNITY
ACTION, (A Commitment to Inclusion in Our Neighborhoods – a three-year program of the MN Council of Churches,) is looking for congregations to participate in the coming year’s cohort. Over the three years, congregations join with other people of faith to learn, experience, and grow in attitudes around race and intercultural competency, exploring how the present situation of racial injustice came to be, what our current climate of life and faith are, and looking for tools to be in solidarity with those on the margins. Jim Crow of the North will be shown at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church on June 13th, 6PM. This film explores the origins of housing segregation in the Mpls area and illustrates how Black people built community — within and despite — the red lines that these restrictive covenants created. AsaleSol Young, executive director of Urban Homeworks, will also share their story as a Black Minnesotan. Learn more here. Part of a cooperative program of Hennepin Ave UMC and MN Council of Churches, guided by Indigenous and Black Minnesotans, creating a space for deep conversations that can lead to heart-change, and more fervent engagement in our own process of truth-telling as we seek to address reparations as a faith community.
