Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Learn about what Quakers are doing in response to our Native brothers’ and sisters’ request to repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery. Does MFM want to embark on this work, too? Come to learn more and contribute to the discernment. For an introduction to the Doctrine of Discovery and its destructive impact click here. In honor of Asian and Pacific Islander Month, Hmong Pioneers: Honoring the First Wave will be shown online on Tues, May 24, at 7PM. At the tumultuous close of the Vietnam War, the Hmong people in Laos fled their homes, livelihoods, and culture, and began to arrive in the US as refugees. Since then, St Paul has become the largest home of Hmong Americans. See how the first Hmong pioneers learned to survive and thrive in MN. 90 minute film; discussion follows. Northern Yearly Meeting Annual Sessions May 27-30. This year’s annual session will be in two parts:

The Police Reform Group will meet at 7PM this coming Tues night, May 17th – a conversation with Councilperson Elliott Payne about what to do in light of the recent Human Rights report. Contact John S. or Stephen for the link.

American Friends Service Committee, No Way to Treat a Child webinar, May 17, 11AM (CT). In May 2021 the Israeli military launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip. Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP) and AFSC will premiere a short film that follows Mohammad, DCIP’s field researcher in Gaza, through his work documenting human rights violations against Palestinian children. A Racial Wealth Gap Simulation, May 17th, 6PM (CT). Quaker Earthcare Witness co-clerk Beverly Ward is hosting a Racial Wealth Gap simulation, an interactive tool that helps people understand the connections between racial equity, hunger, poverty, and wealth. See how federal policies created structural inequalities—in property ownership and education among them—and how these policies increase hunger and poverty in communities of color. More at this link.

Seeking Truth, Healing, and Right Relationship: Quakers and the Legacy of Indian Boarding Schools, offered by Friends Committee on National Legislation, will be May 25, 5:30-6:30PM. This online event presents Quaker efforts underway to reveal and understand the full trauma created by Indian Boarding Schools and their present-day effects, as well as the current plan to get the federal government involved in creating remedies.
