THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW
The bulletin deadline this week is noon Wed. The Meeting Coordinator will be in the office sporadically and not after Wed.
Quakers speaking against war made a difference! The U.S. House of Representatives passed the repeal of the 2002 Authorization of the Use of Military Force on June 17. Originally aimed at Saddam Hussein, the 2002 AUMF gave Presidents open-ended authority for war in Iraq. The Friends Committee on National Legislation has worked for several years for this repeal. FCNL now turns its efforts to the Senate, where a similar bill, SJR 10, will go to a committee vote this week. Local FCNL advocates have appealed to Senators Smith and Klobuchar; Senator Smith just joined the cosponsors of SJR 10. Jim and Doug are MFM representatives to FCNL, and can answer questions.
Planned vocal ministry: Take the opportunity to nurture and encourage each other! If you think someone has a message for the meeting community, recommend them to Ministry and Counsel Committee or encourage them to speak with someone from M&C themselves. Likewise, if you feel you have been given a message to share, contact Bill so a Sunday may be made available to you.
Zephyra and Roland Shepherd created the Shepherd Scholarship in 1977 for the post-secondary education of Minneapolis Meeting members or children of members. Applications and eligibility criteria are available from the office (office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org.) Applications should be mailed to the meetinghouse or emailed to the office by June 30th. More at https://minneapolisfriends.org/shepherd-scholarship-fund/
