First day school for youth: Madison Meeting has invited young friends to join other Northern Yearly Meeting youth on Sunday mornings. All ages 10:00 – 11:00 AM will have a lesson on bringing peace to the world around us. Children will make peaceful crafts while we read Walking Toward Peace: The true story of a brave woman called Peace Pilgrim by Kathleen Krull. (Peace Pilgrim actually visited this area in the early 1970s!) Class will close with a guided meditation. (Materials – plain white paper plate, masking tape, print Pinwheels for Peace on heavy paper (attached) new pencil with eraser, push pin or straight pin with a ball head, markers, scissors.

HOLD IN THE LIGHT

The Indigenous people most affected by the Line 3 pipeline and the resistance efforts to stop it. The pipeline threatens area waters with future carcinogenic pollution from tar sands oil, which would be catastrophic to the Anishenaabe. Lexio Divina / worship sharing mid-day on Wednesdays is suspended through the summer months.

Planned vocal ministry: Take the opportunity to nurture and encourage each other! If you think someone has a message for the meeting community, recommend them to Ministry and Counsel Committee or encourage them to speak with someone from M&C themselves. Likewise, if you feel you have been given a message to share, contact Bill so a Sunday may be made available to you.

The police reform group is meeting with council member Phillipe Cunningham, Tues, June 1, 7PM, to talk about the proposal for a Public Safety Commission. Email Nettie for the link.

Are you led to work with Quaker youth? Want to nurture and support them as they explore their connection with God, with Quakerism, with themselves and their place in the world? Northern Yearly Meeting is searching a Middle School Coordinator to lead programming for middle school youth in NYM: two in-person retreats as well as leading the middle school program at Annual Session. During the past year, programming has been virtual. Flexibility will be critical we determine how we can move ahead in the coming year. Quaker Voluntary Service Spiritual Nurturers wanted! Would you enjoy companioning a young adult QVS Fellow through their year of service and spiritual growth? Nurturers connect with Fellows at least once each month, (Sept – July), and meet with other Nurturers for initial training and twice more for support. Indicate interest no later than June 13 by contacting. The local Quaker Voluntary Service program seeks a Local Coordinator. COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES

Indigenous women are leading the struggle against the Line 3 pipeline. The White Earth lands, especially the rice waters, are now being scarred by construction of the Line 3 tar sands pipeline. The pipeline also threatens these waters with future carcinogenic pollution from tar sands oil, which would be catastrophic to the Anishenaabe. People of faith and conscience are asked to join the resistance and stop Line 3 just as Keystone was stopped. This Indigenous-led movement needs you.
