First day school for youth: Madison Meeting has invited young friends to join other Northern Yearly Meeting youth on Sunday mornings. Elementary youth (6-13), 10-10:45AM – Read Sitti’s Secrets by Naomi Shihab Nye, an autobiography of a Palestine American girl who visits her grandmother in the homeland. Although they don’t speak the same language, grandmother and granddaughter come to a deep understanding of each other. When she returns home, the girl writes a letter to the US President. The class will reflect on how understanding of the commonality and diversity of daily life can contribute to peacemaking. (Materials needed: drawing paper, lined writing paper, sharp pencil, colored pencils); Littles (ages 3-6), 10:45-11:15 – Read One World, One Day, by Barbara Kerley with stunning National Geographic photos of real children around the world going about their daily lives. We will reflect on peace and the value of learning how we are the same while celebrating how we are different. The class will draw children from the story and glue them onto a world map. (Materials – print world map, 1 – 3 sheets of paper (white or colored), crayons, markers, scissors, glue stick. Teens (ages 13-18), will finish their project on homelessness and plan work for the Educate a Girl foundation for girls in Zimbabwe. THINGS TO KNOW
Heads up! The summer schedule starts NEXT SUNDAY, May 30 (and ends September 12th) with one (unprogrammed) worship at 10AM. Worship on the first and third Sundays in the summer will be unprogrammed; worship on the second and fourth Sundays will be semi-programmed.
Zephyra and Roland Shepherd created the Shepherd Scholarship in 1977 for the post-secondary education of Minneapolis Meeting members or children of members. Applications and eligibility criteria are available from the office (office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org.) Applications should be mailed to the meetinghouse or emailed to the office by June 30th.
Lexio Divina / worship sharing mid-day on Wednesdays will be suspended through the summer months.
Planned vocal ministry: Take the opportunity to nurture and encourage each other! If you think someone has a message for the meeting community, recommend them to Ministry and Counsel Committee or encourage them to speak with someone from M&C themselves. Likewise, if you feel you have been given a message to share, contact Bill so a Sunday may be made available to you.
OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH MINNEAPOLIS MEETING FRIENDS
The police reform group is meeting with council member Phillipe Cunningham, Tues, June 1, 7PM, to talk about the proposal for a Public Safety Commission. Email office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org by noon the preceding Friday for the link.
There will be no mid-morning program next Sunday at 10:15. We will be on the summer schedule next week with worship (unprogrammed) starting at 10AM. The May worship link will be active until June.

Quaker Voluntary Service Fellows have a program day twice a month. Area Friends willing to bring vegetarian lunch for the six Fellows are encouraged to sign up with Eli: eli(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)quakervoluntaryservice.org. Lunches needed on June 11th.
Joining the MFM Google Group is an easy way to be engaged with the Meeting. It is also a good tool for committees to communicate with those members who participate. OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH OTHER FRIENDS
Northern Yearly Meeting Annual Session is this coming weekend, May 27-30 – information is here, including program details/registration links. Teens and youth must register too. Highlights include:
• The Session will start on Thurs evening with a special plenary session organized by the Anti Racism Working Group.
• There will be three sessions for workshops/interest groups, with 2-4 events running concurrently in each session.
• No annual session is complete without a talent show. The talent show will be Friday evening!
NEXT SUNDAY at 7PM: Come to the evening session of Northern Yearly Meeting to share with other Friends about Meeting life. Come whether you are registered for the NYM session or not! There will be a short video followed by breakout rooms to share from our Meetings’ States of Society Reports and the conversation that these bring up. George Floyd Global Memorial and the community at George Floyd Square will present a day of community events at 38th and Chicago in Mpls, May 25th, to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of George Floyd. Free, centers on the family and friends of George Perry Floyd Jr., MN families impacted by injustice, and the people who’ve preserved the memorial for 12 months. 1PM, Art, Community, Food, Open-Mic, Children’s Area; 6PM Concert Honoring Families of Injustice or Loss; 8PM Candlelight vigil at George Floyd Square.
