First day school for youth: Madison Meeting has invited young friends to join other Northern Yearly Meeting youth on Sunday mornings. Elementary youth (6-13), 10-10:45AM will explore how children can change their communities and world. The class will read Malala’s Magic Pencil, decorate magic pencils and reflect on challenges in the local community that they would change if they could (materials: scissor, new pencils, magazine pictures, glue.) Littles (ages 3-6), 10:45-11:15 will read Sometimes People March and talk about how we can stand with people who are treated unfairly. The class will learn about Mothers’ Day, founded to urge mothers all over the world to work together for peace, and make peace flowers as gifts (materials: tissue paper, pipe cleaners, scissors, tape.) Teens (ages 13-18), 11:15-12:15 will tie up loose ends from previous projects and hear and discuss a new story. Same link as last week. THINGS TO KNOW
OFFICE HOURS THIS WEEK ARE UNUSUAL. The Meeting Coordinator will be in the office on Mon and Tues and out of the office the rest of the week. Bulletin deadline, noon, Tuesday.
Heads up! The summer schedule will begin May 30 and end September 12th; the return to the school year schedule will begin on Sept 19th. In the summer schedule, there will be one meeting for worship at 10AM. The first and third Sundays will be unprogrammed; the second and fourth will be semi-programmed.
Mayim Rabim’s Rabbi, Sharon Stiefel, will lead Minneapolis’s Healing Our City Reflection at the prayer tent, Thurs, May 13, 8 AM. https://www.healingourcity.org/ The daily prayer tent gathering will continue until Wed, May 26th.
OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH MINNEAPOLIS MEETING FRIENDS
Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Lighting each other’s candles, we can light the world. Northern Yearly Meeting is hopping with exciting initiatives, creative activities, and passion to make change in the world. Grounded in the Spirit and following God’s leadings, the current focus is on learning to be inclusive, anti-racist, and develop right relationship with People of Color (POC) and Native peoples. Becky Marty, co-clerk, and Connie Archbald, MFM’s rep. to NYM, will offer more about NYM, what is coming at the next Annual Session, and how you can be involved.

The Deep Inner Work of Creating Racial Justice Group will meet 7-8:30PM this Tues, May 11. We will use tools and exercises from My Grandmother’s Hands: Healing Racialized Trauma in Our Heart and Bodies. Share a story about the outward racial justice work you are doing; come prepared to examine your experience with implicit bias in your work; and review last month’s assignment, “write a paragraph about a group or an individual doing racial justice work that you admire and talk about why you have been reluctant to join in.” This group meets every second Tues. The virtual launch of Watershed: Attending to Body and Earth in Distress, by Ranae Hanson will be at 7PM on Tues, May 18th. Ranae will be joined in conversation by Ruthanne Crapo Kim, Stephen Healey, and Amina Keinan; Ulla Nilsen will host the event. All are welcome. Register at z.umn.edu/hanson815
