In response to the distress over racial injustice, Peace and Social Concerns Committee is starting a discussion group on the book My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem. Meet on Zoom on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, 7-8:30PM, beginning THIS Tues, July 21st. The first session will be introductory; try to get the book by Aug 4th. We will read the book and do the exercises on our own, then come together to discuss our experiences. Another Quaker Voluntary Service year will begin in late August! THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL QVS PROGRAM: pair up with a friend and adopt a room or two at the house to prepare for the new Fellows; contribute items to the pantry; sign up to provide rides to or from the airport; and more! There is a Northern Yearly Meeting Anti-Racism discussion group currently meeting once a month. Northern Yearly Meeting is offering a Friends General Conference Spiritual Deepening e-retreat, Understanding & Healing White Supremacy. The 4-6 week program helps participants understand racism, white supremacy, and white privilege and how they are embedded in our society, Quaker meetings, and lives.
