First day school (Sunday school) is 10:15-11:00. It is hoped that children and youth who stay after first day school will be in worship from 11:15 until after the planned semi-programmed worship speaker. There is no planned supervision or activities downstairs until after the semi-programmed worship speaker.

UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Telling and Hearing Family Stories. Come prepared to tell a 5-8 minute story about your family. Small groups; facilitated by Tom Wells.
Friendly Meals, opportunities to help us – newcomers and old-timers alike – get to know each other informally. Friendly Meals, a series of meals in participant homes, will happen in February, March and April 2020. There are two options when signing up:
*All in: you participate in three meals, one per month, hosting one of them.
*On call: your name will be placed on a substitute list to fill in for those unable to attend a particular meal.

The Nursery Committee, on behalf of the Meeting, seeks the right person to work with the little ones in the nursery. The work hours are Sundays during the school year, 8:45-12:30; and 9:45-11:15 during the summer months. The pay is $15 an hour. Mary and Stephen invite Friends to their home at Kenwood Isles, this Wed, Jan 15, and every Wed until March, for worship sharing at noon. Come center on a passage for the first half hour followed by amazing conversation over a light lunch for the second half hour. Worship sharing is a Quaker technique of reading and heart listening, similar to the Benedictine practice of lectio divina. Please RSVP to Stephen or Mary.
The Watson Reading Group will meet on Tues, Jan 21, at 7PM, here at the meetinghouse. Currently we are reading Testament of Devotion, by Thomas Kelly. At our monthly meetings we read aloud and reflect on how these and other texts can help us lead Light-centered lives during turbulent times in the world. Everyone is invited.
The MFM Writing Group will meet on Jan 28th at 7PM – a fun and informal evening, with no preparation necessary. At each meeting, we write from prompts and share our writing. Discussion and general merriment continues over tea and homemade cookies. Everyone welcome, no commitment — drop in once or come when you can. We’d love to have you come! Northern Yearly Meeting high school winter retreat at the Cannon Valley Meeting in Northfield, 7PM Fri, Jan 24th (starting with a snack supper,) through Sun, noon, Jan 26th. Theme: Mental Health. Every-other Friday, Quaker Voluntary Service Fellows have a development day for programming about Quakerism and other topics. Friends School of Minnesota’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration THIS Friday, Jan 17, 7PM at The O’Shaughnessy Theater, St. Catherine’s University, St. Paul. Join FSMN’s celebration of Dr. King’s work which was an inspiration for the founding of Friends School. Free and open to the public; enter the campus at Gate 3 (on Randolph Ave between Fairview and Cleveland) and the theater is the first building on your right. Free parking on the east side of the campus off Fairview Ave.
Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) Basic Community Workshop – Jan 17-18. Interested in learning new skills and attitudes to address, prevent, and transform violence? Consider this two-day workshop offering a holistic, experiential, safe, and lively approach to learning the tools to discover your own power to transform conflict and frustration in your life. Lobby with Friends Committee on National Legislation in DC at Spring Lobby Weekend! High schoolers from Madison Meeting as well as Zoe and Sarah (from MFM) are traveling to DC March 28-31 for two days of excellent training then going to Capitol Hill to meet with Senate staffers and with Congresspeople, boosting FCNL’s ongoing lobbying efforts. American Friends Service Committee recently organized briefings for members of Congress on bill, HR 2407 (afsc.org/document/faith-leaders-support-hr-2407), which would stop US tax dollars from funding the detention of children by any country, including Israel. Contact your legislators and call for an end to child detention of any kind, anywhere. Every Church a Peace Church – Mon, Jan 27th, Joan of Arc Church, 4537 3rd Ave. S, Mpls. Potluck at 6:30; program: The wounds of war in Afghanistan, Yemen, and Iraq. Kathy Kelly will speak about the consequences of U.S. action in recent wars and will suggest ways that U.S. people can work to prevent future suffering among people affected by U.S. weapons and wars.
