Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Susie Kanemitsu, will tell the story of how WWII affected her late husband, Hideo Kanemitsu, and his family. At 12 ½ Hideo was selected to become a spy for the Japanese army near the end of WWII.
Winter Envelope Gift: Every winter, Minneapolis Meeting designates organization(s) to receive a one-time gift, outside the Meeting’s usual budget. This year’s organizations are in keeping with the Meeting’s peace and social concerns focus on Gender Justice and Well-Being:
OutFront Minnesota – working to create a state where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment or discrimination; a state where LGBTQ individuals have equal opportunities, protection and rights. outfront.org.

First day school schedule change starting January: Also at Nov’s monthly meeting, a trial schedule change was approved. Starting January 5, 2020, first day school will be at the same time as mid-morning program, 10:15 – 11:00. Families are encouraged to arrive before 10:15 so the meeting’s youth can enjoy each other and fds programming for the full time.
Have Thanksgiving among Friends at a planned potluck, here at the meetinghouse this Thurs! Worship at 3:30, set-up at 4, eating at 4:30, and clean-up and games after! Come for one, two or all parts of the celebration. Sign up sheet for the planned potluck is on the elevator table. Any questions such as what foods are still needed, rides needed or can offer, contact Jim or Nancy.
The Friends for a NonViolent World Holiday Fair will be here before you know it! Sign up to volunteer online TODAY! Volunteer opportunities from Dec 1st – 7th. The annual Holiday Fair, held here at the meetinghouse, offers an opportunity to support, through collective community effort, the tremendous work of Friends for a NonViolent World. The Holiday Fair Quaker Boutique seeks donations: gently used treasures, especially any legacy items that have stories we can share. Jewelry, small giftable items, small art works, intact pottery items, knick-knacks, and antiques you can hold in your hand. Bring to the meetinghouse conference room by Dec 1. Every-other Friday, Quaker Voluntary Service Fellows have a development day for programming about Quakerism and other topics. Are you willing to prepare and drop off (vegetarian) lunch for eight at the QVS house or one of the local meetinghouses on Dec 6th, or 20th? A group of MFM men have been meeting together for twenty-five years, supporting each other in living out Quaker values through a range of life events. The group has a potluck dinner—and sharing of what’s going on with each of us—every month, and an annual three-day retreat. For the rest of 2019, the group is opening for men who want to join. We are open to all with the understanding that the group is built on commitment to long-term relationships and regular attendance. First Monday Friends’ annual carol-singing session at Twin Cities Meeting, 1725 Grand Ave, St. Paul, Mon, Dec 2: potluck at noon; carol-singing at 1PM. You are warmly welcome to either or both! Feel free to bring a musical instrument, including piano-playing fingers.

A new worshipful, Spirit-led Anti-Racism Working Group was established at the recent Northern Yearly Meeting interim session to better integrate and carry forward anti-racism work. Honing the Working Group’s mission, scope and functioning likely at Spring interim session and at yearly meeting. Feel led to do this work? Northern Yearly Meeting Youth and Young Adults Called to Lobby with Friends Committee on National Legislation in D.C.
At the 2019 Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) Spring Lobby Weekend, high schoolers from Madison Meeting joined 450 other young people to lobby Congress on the crisis at our southern border. After two days of excellent training, they went to Capitol Hill to meet with Senate staffers and with Congressman, boosting FCNL’s ongoing lobbying efforts while still having some time to see D.C. NYM older youth are invited to participate! The FCNL Spring Lobby Weekend is set for March 28 – 31, 2020, in Washington D.C. Join hundreds of young adult and high school students to press Congress to pass climate change legislation. Madison HS Friends are going again. Friends Peace Teams offers Creating Cultures of Peace, a movement of love and conscience for teens and young adult leaders working for peaceful homes, communities and societies – online learning (meets via Zoom twice monthly) and an experiential training in Buffalo, NY, August 1-9, 2020.
