Zephyra and Roland Shepherd created the Shepherd Scholarship in 1977 for the post-secondary education of members or member’s children. Applications and eligibility criteria are available on the long table in the east hall. Application deadline is TODAY.
Save Wed, July 31st, 7 PM for a conversation about how we organize and provide care to each other. Hosted by the Ministry and Counsel Committee.
Loaves and Fishes- Monday July 29. Join others from the Metro-area Friends Meetings along with the folks from the Ismaili Community and Mayim Rabim Synagogue at Holy Rosary Church, 2424 18th Ave, S, Mpls. Volunteers are needed for 2 PM preparation of chili, vegetables, fruit, salad, and rolls; 4:45 PM serving food and beverages; and 5:30 PM cleaning in the kitchen and dining area. Donations of fresh or dried fruit also needed. Sign up for a shift on the sheet on the bulletin table.
From Social Committee: Thank you to all who brought food to share, helped clear, wash, and dry dishes, and wash and put away tables and chairs – all with smiles and laughter – for the crowd of regulars and visitors at potluck this past Sunday! Your generous spirit makes potluck Sundays a time of festive gathering!
Read Primitive Quakerism Revived at the Watson reading group this Tues, July 16th at 7 PM here in the conference room. No need to read ahead – we’ll read together! One-timers and regulars – everyone is welcome!
A new writing group is starting: 7 PM Tues, July 23rd at the home of Jane – a relaxed but structured group with a focus on developing a spiritual practice through writing. Each month we’ll write and have the chance to share with each other. Everyone welcome. Contact Jane with questions or interest.
The great hosta give-away! The meeeting gardeners are in the process of reconstructing/ reimagining the area behind the picnic table. Hostas in the triangle area (near the steps) are available to anyone who wants to dig up and take them. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE HOSTAS BY THE FENCE. The hostas remaining in the triangle will be removed on July 23rd.
Quaker Voluntary Service request: Kirsten, the Fellow who will be working at Bridging in Roseville next year, is still trying to arrange transportation to and from work. Do you commute between south Minneapolis and the Roseville area and are willing to share a ride with Kirsten, August – July? Even one or two days a week would be incredibly helpful: MWF–either 7:30-4 or 8-4:30; T/Th any 8.5 hour span starting at 7 to 9 AM. Registration is open for Friends for a NonViolent World’s People Camp Aug 11-17! Founded by Quakers and welcoming to all, People Camp is an experience of cooperation, community living, and exploration of ideas and issues. Typically, campers are equally divided between families and individuals. All campers help to make camp a safe and supportive place for everyone —adults, teens, and children. More at fnvw.org.

Every Church A Peace Church’s next potluck supper meeting is TOMORROW, July 15th, 6:30 PM at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 29th St and 32nd Ave S. Topic: Critical Realignments and the Future of American Politics by David Schultz, Hamline University Professor of Political Science. Elections have consequences. Prof Schultz will examine the impact the 2018 elections had on a longer realignment in American politics and what it means for the 2020 election and beyond. Emphasis will be on how a generational shift is producing a new politics and what that means for America.
The American media narrative of Iraq and the Middle East is one of violence, extremism, and relentless tragedy. These flattened stories cement dangerous stereotypes and feelings of fear or pity. “Birds Sing Differently Here” is based on the true stories of thirteen Iraqi-Minnesotan refugees and immigrants – full of fear, grief, and danger, but also of love, family, change, and joy.
