MEETING SCHEDULE AND PROGRAM

TODAY

10:00 – 11:00 AM meeting for worship (unprogrammed): care of meeting, Bill Hendricks and Clifford Goltz

Following the closing handshake, we will take time for introductions, and there will be a few moments to share joys and concerns, followed by pre-arranged announcements. Generally, information should be put in the bulletin in advance and not shared after worship. After-worship announcements, when needed, should be brief so Friends can be released.

You are welcome to the vegetarian potluck TODAY after worship! We will be joined, too, by members from the Mayim Rabim congregation, enjoying good food and conversation. To regulars – help with this do-it-ourselves event and look for ways to help: replenish plates, silverware, napkins; fill water pitchers; help clear, wash and dry dishes, tables and chairs. And remember to list your dish’s ingredients so all can participate with confidence!

AFTER THE POTLUCK, please stay for a contemplative concert, Garden of the Righteous, offered by Naye Strunes (New Strings) at around 1 PM, to commemorate Yom HaShoah/Holocaust Remembrance Day. More than 21,000 non-Jews risked their lives during the Holocaust to save innocent people they didn’t know. They are designated as Righteous Among the Nations, and trees were planted in their honor in the Yad VaShem Garden of the Righteous in Jerusalem. Weaving together stories of six fearless individuals with original introspective Yiddish music, the concert offers an opportunity to reflect on stunning examples of courage and compassion in dark times. Free-will donations benefit Doctors Without Borders medical teams who help people regardless of politics, religion, or race.

UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS

Children and teens as well as adults are encouraged to participate in worship as much as they are able. Please be aware that children and teens might be more likely to attend worship in the summer months.

Monthly meeting for business will be next Sunday from 11:00 – 12:30. Come participate in the discernment.

Ministry and Counsel Committee will meet this Thursday night, 7 PM, in the conference room.

Would you like to have coffee with a Quaker? (It doesn’t have to be coffee!) Sign up slips are now on the elevator table. Please fill one out and place it in the coffee can. Slips will be collected weekly and you will be contacted to make arrangements.

Welcoming and Outreach Committee is looking for greeters to welcome folks at the two entrances each Sunday, offering a warm smile and a handshake in greeting and directing newcomers to the guestbook and meetingroom. If you could be an occasional greeter, please contact Sue.

Meeting gardeners (currently Clifford, Rae Beth, Betsy and Sarah) meet at 6:30 PM on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, June – Sept, and would welcome your company. They also are in need of mulch donations for meetinghouse beds: cedar mulch (#180-3016) and ruby red mulch (#180-3034) – both at Menards. Thank you!

Spiritual Nurturers for Quaker Voluntary Service Fellows 2019-2020: Please contact a Spiritual Nurture Anchor (Judith, Lin, or TCFM’s Mary Ellen) to learn more about the role of Spiritual Nurturer for QVS Fellows. This important part of the QVS program provides a listening ear and spiritual friendship for a Fellow during their program year. It is expected that the nurturer meet each month (at least), Sept – July, with their Fellow and will gather with other nurturers in check-in meetings, as arranged, at least three times during the year. There will be a Spirit-led matching process in early summer to identify nurturers for the six new Fellows.

Quaker Voluntary Service Local Coordinator sought – a motivated, Quake Quaker-friendly, self-directed individual who feels passionate about supporting young adults in spiritual deepening and immersion in justice issues. The position includes significant interface and facilitation with QVS Fellows, local Quakers, and area non-profits. Applications accepted on a rolling basis; priority given to those received by June 5. Position begins in July. The Minneapolis / St. Paul Quaker Voluntary Service House is full for next year! The position at Our Saviour’s Housing, which involves visiting clients all over Hennepin Country, requires a car. If you know of a reliable vehicle for purchase or to loan, please contact Mary Ellen.

Friends School of MN will be hosting a final all-school worship this Wed, June 5th, 9-11 AM. Friends are warmly invited. 1365 Englewood Ave, St Paul.

The SW Lakes Community Choir will host a community sing-a-long this Thurs, here, at 7 PM. You are most welcome!

Friends for a NonViolent World’s Annual Picnic will be this Sat, June 8th, 9:30-12:30 all ages; 12:30-2 PM adults 18+. This schedule accommodates both families with children and those whose conditions of release from prison do not allow them to be around minors. Food, conversation, games. Registration is open for Friends for a NonViolent World’s People Camp Aug 11-17! Founded by Quakers and welcoming to all – individuals and families – People Camp is an experience of cooperation, community living, and exploration of ideas and issues. From American Friends Service Committee: MN U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum recently introduced a new bill, HR 2407, designed to hold Israel accountable for continued abuse of Palestinian children held in Israeli military detention in violation of international humanitarian law (afsc.org/newsroom/new-bill-would-protect-palestinian-children-abuse-0). The bill would ensure that U.S. financial assistance provided to Israel is not used to detain, interrogate, abuse, torture, and prosecute Palestinian children in military courts. Supported by American Friends Service Committee, Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCI-P), and others through the No Way to Treat a Child campaign.
