UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Calendar Reminder: The last day of the school year schedule is next Sunday, May 19th. Starting May 26th, there will be a single 10 AM worship each Sunday morning.
Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Writing as a Spiritual Practice. There is a long Quaker tradition of writing as a spiritual practice. For example, in the journals of John Woolman, the distinction between writing and spiritual discipline disappears. We will look at the practice of exploring one’s mind/soul/Inner Light through a simple hands-on writing process. There will be a chance to come together, share, and have some fun. Facilitated by Jane Downes.
Peace and Social Concerns Committee will meet this Wed, 7 PM in the conference room. The committee welcomes everyone interested.
Welcoming and Outreach Committee is looking for greeters to welcome folks at the two entrances each Sunday, offering a warm smile and a handshake in greeting and directing newcomers to the guestbook and meetingroom. If you could be an occasional greeter, please contact Sue.
Read Primitive Quakerism Revived by Paul Buckley at the Watson reading group Tues, May 21st at 7 PM in the conference room. No need to read ahead – we’ll read together! One-timers and regulars – everyone is welcome to this rich time of ideas, sharing, and discussion!
Would you like to have coffee with a Quaker? (Of course, it doesn’t have to be coffee!) Sign up slips are now on the bulletin table. Please fill one out and place it in the coffee can. Slips will be collected weekly and you will be contacted to make the arrangements. ~ Welcoming and Outreach Committee
BE AWARE: New carpet will be laid in the meetinghouse the week of May 20-24. Though the glue chosen for the job is eco-friendly, there will likely be off-gassing for a time from the carpet itself.
Curious about the membership process? Any attender is invited to talk about membership with a member of the Ministry and Counsel Committee or anyone who’s been around a while! It can be an informal one-on-one conversation or a more formal request for a clearness committee. There’s a “How To Become a Member” sheet on the long bulletin board (opposite the nametags). Some indications that it might be time to explore membership in the Society of Friends at Minneapolis Meeting:
You have worshiped among Friends and find Quaker values and practice compatible with your experience.
You feel God has led you to the Meeting and is encouraging you to embrace and grow in Quaker faith and practice here.
You feel an increasing commitment to the spiritual vitality and depth of the Meeting and to nurturing the members and attenders here.
You increasingly feel the importance of weekly worship and connection with the life of the Meeting to your spiritual well-being.
You feel an increasing commitment to participate in the life of the Meeting through committees and to contribute to the financial well-being of the Meeting.
You feel that the outward expression of membership would match your internal experience of commitment and belonging.

Hosts and transportation needed for El Salvador visitors: As part of Northern Yearly Meeting’s exchange with El Salvador Yearly Meeting, three guests from El Salvador will attend Yearly Meeting and spend May 19th – May 24th in the Twin Cities. The guests include the directors of the two Friends Schools and an English teacher serving as a translator, all here to experience both education in the U.S. and our Quaker community. Individuals are needed to help welcome them. Spanish is not necessary. Some suggestions:
Take them out to a meal or bring them on an interesting (short) tourist type event around the Twin Cities or provide some rides. In particular we are looking for a ride for three to Northern Yearly Meeting.
Do something with them and provide lunch on Tuesday morning, May 21st.
Provide rides to and from Friends School on Wednesday, May 22nd.
Invite them to dinner and an activity Wednesday night.
Attend a potluck in their honor on Thursday night.
Gather some Minnesota souvenirs (T-shirts, etc) to give as gifts on our behalf.
Be on call if needs for additional meals or rides are needed.
El Salvador Yearly Meeting has provided generous hospitality to members of our Yearly Meeting for many years. Thanks for any ways in which you can be part of a community reciprocating.
