The meeting’s fiscal year ends TODAY. Please submit any outstanding reimbursements to your committee clerk so they can be okayed and paid in this fiscal year.
Copies of the recently approved committee list are on the elevator table. Please pick one up for reference. If the work of a committee interests you, don’t wait to be asked to serve on it! Contact the committee clerk to visit a committee meeting or to share your curiosity. Many committees would welcome the interest! Ministry and Counsel Committee and Trustees have closed meetings due to confidentiality issues – but Friends are still invited to speak to those clerks to find out more!
UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
You are invited to the all-Meeting potluck at the rise of second worship NEXT SUNDAY. An added opportunity, Tim Wallis and Vicki Elson will be available for discussion about their involvement with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, the 2017 Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, (which received the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize,) and converting nuclear war preparations into a national plan to address climate change. Those interested should gather in the large classroom. To regulars, please bring lots of food so we can be confident inviting visitors and guests to stay!
Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Quaker Earthcare Witness and the practices of Transition to Sustainable Ways of Life, facilitated by Ranae Hanson (MFM) and Regula Russelle (Prospect Hill Meeting). Learn more about the identity and work of the national organization, Quaker Earthcare Witness, and engage with practical steps of living into sustainability.

Quaker Earthcare Witness’s spring meeting is April 11-14.
– Come the evenings of April 12th and 13th when local Friends will host potluck dinners and plenary sessions: Fri night at Twin Cities Meeting with Friends School of MN presenting on Protecting Pollinators; Sat night at Minneapolis Meeting with a Transition Town panel presenting.

Jim warmly invites Friends to a worship followed by a simple meal on Fri, April 26, Good Friday. Worship will start at 6 PM and will include a reading from Matthew 26 (the passion and death of Jesus) and two hymns.

Northern Yearly Meeting’s annual session, “Spirit-Led Communication” will be at Wisconsin Lions Camp near Rosholt, WI Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-27. Programming for infants and up, with many opportunities for worship, discussion, education and play. Registration at northernyearlymeeting.org. Workshop proposals (prepared presentation and discussion) sought; deadline, April 20th. Two El Salvadoran Friends School heads and one teacher will be coming. Translators needed. The 2019 Friends General Conference Gathering is able to offer deep discounts this year like: children and teen program fees waived; 50% children and teen meals covered; more scholarships available to families and teens. This is the year to bring your family to the Gathering in (relatively) nearby Grinnell IA, June 30 – July 6! Financial help might be available to MFMers who wish to attend the clerking workshop. OTHER HAPPENINGS AMONG QUAKERS
The Quaker Parenting Initiative: Support for the spiritual journey of child-rearing. Explore how a uniquely Quaker approach to childrearing can help Friends frame parenting as part of their Quaker spiritual journey. QPI offers a query-based approach for sorting out parenting challenges by applying one’s deepest hopes and convictions to them. Harriet Heath from Schoodish Meeting, (NEYM) facilitator. From Friends for a NonViolent World: Congresspeople are putting in requests for the new appropriations bill. Ask your representatives to start funding nonviolent approaches to conflict; specifically, “include financial support for Unarmed Civilian Protection in the FY2020 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs appropriations bill.” To find your representatives’ contact info: house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative; talking points: nonviolentpeaceforce.org/ucp-resources.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Winyan Awanyankapi: Protecting the Lifegivers. Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Indigenous Peoples Sovereignty of Housing and Water – designed and led by indigenous women. All welcome. Keynotes by Ann McKeig, first Native American to serve on the MN Supreme Court, and Patina Park, Executive Director, MN Indian Women’s Resource Center; play by Native youth, Anishinaabe water ceremony, break-out sessions, and meals by Indigenous caterers. April 5-7 at First Universalist Church, Mpls. Cost: $425; Indigenous people attend at no charge. Click here for more.
The Mack Lecture Series at the Walker will host Claudia Rankine’s Notes on The White Card, April 10, 7 pm. Rankine will read and reflect on her new play, The White Card covering topics of race, selfhood, and contemporary American life. Unpack the insidious ways racism manifests itself in everyday situations, and ask how society can progress if whiteness stays invisible.
