10:15 – 11:00: Patricia McKernon on The Holy Madness of Grief. If you’ve suffered a serious loss, you know that grief can feel like a wilderness. Is there a compass to help navigate this holy madness? If so, what would North be?

TODAY AFTER SECOND WORSHIP: Patricia McKernon, a former member of MFM and current member of Chatham-Summit Meeting, will stay and lead a sharing session based on four queries starting at 1:15. Patricia’s book, Grief’s Compass – Walking the Wilderness with Emily Dickinson, has recently been published. A copy is in the library. Friends are invited to bring a bag lunch to eat together and whole fruit to share.

UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Gayle McJunkin on developing gifts of ministry and becoming recorded as a minister in the Religious Society of Friends. Gifts of ministry are varied and shaped by experiences, education, (formal and informal,) and the Meetings’ needs. Among Friends, there is the practice of recording gifts of ministry as the gifts are recognized and experienced by the Meeting members. Gayle will describe her early ministry, the role attending Earlham School of Religion had on developing gifts of ministry, and the process of becoming a recorded minister in the Religious Society of Friends in Indiana Yearly Meeting during a time when women were again being recognized as ministers among Friends.
Spend Thanksgiving among F(f)riends at a planned potluck, here at the meetinghouse THIS Thurs. Worship at 3:30, set-up at 4, eating at 4:30, and clean-up and games after! Come for one, two or all parts of the celebration. Sign-up on the elevator table.

The Friends for a NonViolent World Holiday Fair will be Dec 7-8. Keep making progress on those crafts and canned goods, plan what baked goods you can offer to the Friendly Café or sell upstairs, and gather your collection of books for the book sale! Donated items make up an important part of Holiday Fair sales since 100% of proceeds from donated items go to FNVW! Sign up online to volunteer at the event itself: signupgenius.com . Paul Buckely, Quaker scholar and author, will visit MFM the weekend of Feb 1-3 to offer presentations and lead discussions on his two recent books: Primitive Christianity Revived (a modern translation of Wm Penn’s classic) and Primitive Quakerism Revived. The schedule is being developed but save the dates to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity! Six copies of Primitive Quakerism Revived are available for purchase here ($15 ea); two copies are in the MFM library. Both books are reviewed in the most recent issue of Friends Journal.

Quaker Voluntary Service: The Fellows will have program days at MFM on Jan 18 and Feb 15 and at Twin Cities Meeting on Jan 4th and Feb 1st. Volunteers are sought to drop off lunch for eight (including two gluten-free people; two vegetarians) on those days. Also sought: a small desk and chair. Friends for a NonViolent World’s Alternatives Violence Project (AVP) community workshop Nov 30 – Dec 1. AVP is a series of experiential workshops in nonviolence and conflict resolution – learning and creating by doing, not by lecture, with empowering effect. Our Whole Lives Retreat in Chicago for Middle and High Schoolers. Northern Yearly Meeting youth are invited – Fri, Nov 30 – Sun, Dec 2nd. A number of units of the Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum, a highly-esteemed, comprehensive and inclusive sexuality education program, will be presented. Facilitators are trained IL Yearly Meeting Friends. Separate middle and high school OWL programs. Arrangements can be made to pick up/drop off young friends from bus/train stations. Young Adult Friends Dinner: the Quaker Voluntary Service Fellows will host a dinner at their house for Young Adult Friends (ages 18-35) on Fri, Dec 1st. Quaker Voluntary Service Fellow, Taylor, is working with Minnesota Interfaith Power and Light (MNIPL) to provide energy assessments to Minneapolis businesses and faith communities. Taylor will help schedule the free assessment and review the resulting report. If organizations decide they wish to act on recommendations for improvements, Taylor can help find financing. MNIPL will also have a youth team trained to help make certain low-cost and no-cost upgrades. A Climate Disobedience Center Information Session about forming Praxis Groups will be this Tues, Nov 20th, 7-9 PM, at Twin Cities Meeting (1725 Grand Ave, St. Paul). A Praxis Group is an affinity group committed to several cycles of reflection and agreed-upon action. Jay, a Friend from Vermont, will lead.

Mayim Rabim’s Sharon Stiefel will teach a class on Chanukah and its origins on Tues, Nov 20, 7 – 8:30 PM here at the meetinghouse. Often Chanukah is explained by focusing on the miracle of the oil and the Maccabee’s victory. Come explore some fascinating other reasons for celebrating Chanukah when we do.
