UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: Patricia McKernon on The Holy Madness of Grief. Patricia, a former member of MFM and current member of Chatham-Summit Meeting in NJ, has recently published Grief’s Compass – Walking the Wilderness with Emily Dickinson. Patricia will stay and lead a sharing session based on four queries, starting at 1:15. Friends are invited to bring a bag lunch to eat together and whole fruit to share.
Nominating Committee is meeting at 4:30, this Tues, Nov 13th. The Nominating Committee speaks with Meeting members and attenders and helps discern how individual gifts might be used and developed in service to the Meeting. If you have any questions about, or interest in, any committee, or would like to talk with someone about how to become more involved in the life of the Meeting, contact a committee member: Doug, Annamary, Debbie, or Jim.
Finish reading Out of the Silence: Quaker Perspectives on Pastoral Care and Counseling and perhaps start on a new title at the Watson reading group this Tues, Nov 13th at 7 PM in the conference room. No need to read ahead – we’ll read together! One-timers and regulars – everyone is welcome!

Spend Thanksgiving among F(f)riends at a planned potluck, here at the meetinghouse Nov 22nd. Worship at 3:30, set-up at 4, eating at 4:30, and clean-up and games after! Come for one, two or all parts of the celebration. Sign-up on the elevator table.
Looking Further Ahead:
The Friends for a NonViolent World Holiday Fair will be Dec 7-8. Start (if you haven’t already!) on those crafts and canned goods and plan what baked goods you can offer to the Friendly Café or to sell upstairs. And save time to volunteer at

Paul Buckely, Quaker scholar and author, will visit MFM the weekend of Feb 1-3 to offer presentations and lead discussions on his two recent books: Primitive Christianity Revived (a modern translation of Wm Penn’s classic) and Primitive Quakerism Revived. The schedule is being developed but save the dates to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity! Six copies of Primitive Quakerism Revived are available for purchase here ($15 ea); two copies are in the MFM library. Both books are reviewed in the most recent issue of Friends Journal.
Minneapolis Friends are invited to Winona Friends’ Thanksgiving Potluck on Sun, Nov. 18, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winona: meeting for worship at 10 a.m. with a potluck following; singing likely! Winona Friends will provide chicken and trimmings, you may bring foods that are easily transported. There is a kitchen to reheat or warm items if needed.

Quaker Voluntary Service: THANK YOU to Friends who have provided lunches for program days and who have offered other support! The Fellows will have program days at MFM on Jan 18 and Feb 15. Volunteers are sought to bring lunch for eight (two gluten-free people; two vegetarians) on those days. Also sought: a small desk and chair. Friends for a NonViolent World’s Alternatives Violence Project (AVP) community workshop Nov 30 – Dec 1. AVP is a series of experiential workshops in nonviolence and conflict resolution – learning and creating by doing, not by lecture, with empowering effect. COMMUNITY EVENTS
There will be a Clean Water Rally this Thurs, Nov 15th at 12 PM at the Whole Foods in downtown Minneapolis (222 Hennepin Ave) that will bring together local experts, stakeholders, and community members to publicly call on Whole Foods to commit to sustainability standards for the meat that they buy in order to protect the water we drink, the lakes we love, and the ecosystems we depend on. Organized by Mighty Earth.

Middle East Peace Now Sat Morning Forum this Sat, Nov 17, 9 AM at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 France Ave: Iran is often portrayed as dangerous, backward and hostile. Retired journalist Jeremy Iggers has visited Iran three times in the past three years and will introduce the people he’s met and the places he has visited that contrast with those widely held beliefs.
