Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) is asking Friends to request that your candidates get on the record on issues affecting Indian Country. Native American tribes’ inherent right to govern themselves and their lands is one of the most important, unacknowledged issues at stake in this year’s midterm elections. Advocating on behalf of Native rights was a priority recommended to FCNL by Minneapolis Monthly Meeting. More at fcnl.org/updates
Also from FCNL: A bipartisan resolution (H.Con.Res. 138) that directs President Trump to end U.S. support for the war in Yemen could be taken up as soon as November. U.S. weapons, intelligence and refueling support have enabled Saudi and Emirati warplanes to rain down bombs on Yemeni neighborhoods, killing and injuring civilians – even children – tipping the country toward famine and putting at least eight million people at risk for starvation. This resolution offers an opportunity to end the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. More at act.fcnl.org .
