John and Carolyn will meet with interested others today at 11:30 in the conference room to talk about their highs (and lows?) at the recent Friends General Conference Gathering. There were daily Bible half-hour sessions at the gathering which are now online. You can access them by googling “FGC bible half hour Dwight Wilson”.

The Ministry and Counsel Committee oversees the care of the spiritual life of the Meeting and the pastoral care of those in the MFM community. The committee will meet this Thursday, August 2, at 7 PM in the conference room. A contact information list for committee members is in a pocket of the new directories and can also be found on the elevator table.
Friends, one in our MFM community lacks money for food this summer. You can help by bringing any of the following items next Sunday, August 4: Organic yogurt or milk, butter, bread (any kind), cooking oil, canned beans, pasta, canned tuna, regular coffee, brown rice, crunchy peanut butter.
Come help offer a Loaves and Fishes meal TOMORROW, July 30th! Join other metro-area Friends along with the Ismaili Community to provide a nutritious meal to families and individuals at Holy Rosary Church, 2424 – 18th Ave, S. Volunteers needed for: 2:30PM preparation of chili, vegetables, fruit, salad, and rolls; 4:45PM serving food and beverages; and 5:30PM cleaning kitchen and dining area. Donations of fresh or dried fruit also needed. Sign-up sheet on the bulletin table.
Interested in gardening? Meeting gardeners (currently Clifford, Rae Beth, Betsy, and Sarah) will meet THIS Thurs at 6:30 PM and every first and third Thursdays of the month, June – September, at the meetinghouse. Come when you can!

OTHER HAPPENINGS AMONG QUAKERS
The Northern Yearly Meeting is seeking a middle school program coordinator, starting this autumn. The Coordinator is responsible for leading two retreats during the year and for leading the middle school program at NYM Annual Session. Application review begins August 15. People Camp, August 12-18, a program of Friends for a NonViolent World, offers a place to relax, a time to share, and a space to refresh our spirits and build a community of peace and understanding on Fishhook Lake, near Park Rapids, MN. For all ages, all contribute to the work, there is no paid staff. Morning program series will be led by FNVW director, Jenn Hamrick, on Advocacy, Identity Politics, and Prison Reform. Other activities include music, singing, dancing, games and various interest groups. For more and to register, go to fnvw.org .
Friends for a Nonviolent World (FNVW) has set aside two board of directors positions for college students and is actively seeking applicants. The term runs from September to May. For more: Jenn or Maddy at 651-917-0383.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
Mayim Rabim invites Friends to: Forgotten Stories of LGBTQ Jewish Ancestors with Noam Sienna this Thurs, Aug 2nd, 7 PM, here. Come discover centuries of LGBTQ Jewish life, from a gay brawl in a medieval synagogue, to a gender-bending Jewish stowaway in colonial Canada, to gay and lesbian Jewish activists in 1950s America. Sienna is a doctoral candidate in History, University of Minnesota. His anthology of LGBTQ Jewish History is slated for publication in 2018.
The roses at the Lyndale Park Rose Garden need help! Voices of the Roses seek youth and other lovers of beauty in Minneapolis to help restore the Rose Garden. Come help prune rose hips, pull weeds, bug-check, cut suckers, and replace roses when they die, Saturdays, 9:00 AM. – 12:00 PM, through September 15. RSVP to Linda Johnson (612-866-4664).
