MEETING SCHEDULE AND PROGRAM
TODAY
10:00 – 11:00 AM meeting for worship (unprogrammed): care of meeting, Gayle McJunkin and Clifford Goltz; Carol Bechtel (mic)
Quaker reminder: If you find yourself prompted to offer a message, reflect on if the leading is of the Spirit. Does the urge to speak arise from a spiritual motion rather than simply being a desire to share your active thoughts?
Following the closing handshake, we will take time for introductions; there will be a few moments to share joys and concerns; and pre-arranged announcements may be made. (Preference and general practice is that all announcements be submitted for the bulletin.) Please be sensitive to the need Friends might have to be released so they might go on to planned activities of their day and keep comments brief.
Take advantage of the lazy, hazy days of summer and linger for a cup of coffee, a nibble, and brief visit today after worship. Hosts are Sarah, Barbara, and Nancy.
HOLD IN THE LIGHT
The Earth and the all that inhabits it. Every day, micro and macro decisions are made which affect the health of the planet and the future of those living on it. The MN Public Utilities Commission will decide this week if the Canadian tar sands pipeline, Line 3, will be allowed to run across MN’s northern lakes and through treaty territory. More at mn350.org
The people of Yemen. At least 8.4 million people are at risk of starvation and 22.2 million people (75% of the population) are in need of humanitarian assistance (UN). Severe acute malnutrition threatens almost 400,000 children under the age of five.
UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Children and adults are encouraged to participate in worship as much as they are able. If you anticipate needing to leave the meetingroom before the close of worship, please sit by a door to minimize disruption. ALSO, if you arrive before worship begins, consider leaving seats near the doors available to those who join worship late.
The new directories are ready to pick up! One directory per household, please. A pdf version will be emailed to those who request it. Email your request to office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org
Lend your elbow grease and make the meetinghouse sparkle! Our annual spring cleaning is NEXT SUNDAY at the rise of worship. Plan to stay and tackle a couple of windows or other job before going to enjoy the afternoon.
Plan to come to the new member welcome for Juliet and Ellen on July 22 at the rise of worship. Come to warmly welcome them, learn more about both of them, and celebrate the gifts they bring to the Meeting.
The Mid-Morning Program Committee invites Friends to submit ideas and suggestions for the September, 2018 to May, 2019 Mid-Morning Program schedule. There is a sign-up sheet on the elevator table until July 1, or you can email your suggestions to any of the committee: Ellen and Elizabeth, co-clerks, and members Carol, Joanne, Bill, Lee, and Mary.
Interested in gardening? Meeting gardeners (currently Clifford, Rae Beth, Betsy and Sarah) meet at 6:30 PM on the first and third Thursdays of the month, June – September, at the meetinghouse. Come when you can for satisfying fun playing in the dirt, fabulous people, lots of laughs, and glorious ice cream at the occasional “meeting” at Sebastian Joes! Questions? Contact Clifford.
Living together: If glasses or dishes are used during your committee, study, or social time together, please wash them and leave the kitchen ready for Mayim Rabim or the next group. Even one unwashed cup attracts additional dishes. There is no one who is designated or paid to do our washing up.
