MEETING SCHEDULE AND PROGRAM
TODAY
10:00 – 11:00 AM meeting for worship (unprogrammed): care of meeting, Jeannette Raymond and Gib Pellet; Nancy Helfrich (mic)
Quaker reminder: If you find yourself prompted to offer a message, reflect on if the leading is of the Spirit. Does the urge to speak arise from a spiritual motion rather than simply being a desire to share your active thoughts?
At the close of worship, please be sensitive to the need Friends might have to be released to attend to food for the potluck or to go on to planned activities of their day – keep comments and announcements brief.
The new directories are ready to pick up! Limited supply – one directory per household, please. A pdf version will be emailed to those members/attenders who request it. Email your request to office(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)minneapolisfriends.org
You are welcome to stay for the potluck at the rise of meeting for worship today. Please stay even if you didn’t bring a “pot” to contribute! To regulars, please help with this do-it-ourselves affair: refresh plates, silverware, napkins, water as needed; clear tables; wash, dry and put away dishes; wash and store tables and chairs.
A Message from your Social Committee about Potlucks: All the wonderful food brought to share is so appreciated! Below are a few points that will help the potluck run smoothly:
1. Space for food prep is limited so do as much as you can before you arrive.
2. The oven and stove top are set low for warming, not cooking.
3. You are welcome to use the stove for cooking as long as you mind your food until it is cooked and ready to be kept warm.
4. List the ingredients of your contribution on a post-it size paper. Committee members will put the list next to your dish.
5. Remember to collect your pan or casserole dish at the end of potluck.
6. Relaxed interactions and conversation are precious parts of potlucks. Social Committee members want to be respectful of the spirit flowing in conversations when the meal is over. If you see people starting to wipe tables and put away chairs, please consider moving your conversation to an adjacent room, or continuing your conversation while helping the clean-up effort.
UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Children and adults are encouraged to participate in worship as much as they are able. If you anticipate needing to leave the meetingroom before the close of worship, please sit by a door to minimize disruption. ALSO, if you arrive before worship begins, consider leaving seats near the doors available to those who join worship late.
THANK YOU to the Property Committee and those who stayed to spring clean the meetinghouse last week!
Today is the last day to make suggestions to the Mid-Morning Program Committee for next year’s Mid-Morning Program schedule. Write your suggestions on the sheet on the elevator table or you send an email to any on the committee: Ellen and Elizabeth, (co-clerks,) Carol, Joanne, Bill, Lee, and Mary.
The Ministry and Counsel Committee will NOT meet this Thursday (July 5) but will meet next Thurs, July 12th at 7 PM.
Plan to come to the new member welcome for Juliet and Ellen on July 22 at the rise of worship. Come to warmly welcome them and to learn more about each of them and celebrate the gifts they bring to the Meeting.
The Nominating Committee is looking for one or two more people to join the Care of Worship (Semi-programmed) Committee, planning, scheduling, and caring for the second meeting for worship. Responsibilities include closing worship as well as finding microphone carriers, musicians, and planned speakers. Speak with either co-clerk, Judith or Clifford with interest or for more.
If you wish to offer ministry of carrying the mic or playing music or you feel you have a message for worship, let Judith or Clifford know that too!
Read Out of the Silence: Quaker Perspectives on Pastoral Care and Counseling at the Watson reading group Wed, July 25 at 7 PM in the conference room. No need to read ahead – we’ll read together! One-timers and regulars – everyone is welcome!
Interested in gardening? Meeting gardeners (currently Clifford, Rae Beth, Betsy and Sarah) meet at 6:30 PM on the first and third Thursdays of the month, June – September, at the meetinghouse. Come when you can for satisfying fun playing in the dirt, fabulous people, lots of laughs, and glorious ice cream at the occasional “meeting” at Sebastian Joes! Questions? Contact Clifford.
Donations are being sought to furnish the Quaker Voluntary Service house, particularly window air conditioners, good bikes, bike helmets, and u-locks. Contact Judith or local coordinator, Sonja (sonja(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)quakervoluntaryservice.org) with offers. For more, see quakervoluntaryservice.org/minneapolis .
