Both Ramsey County Sheriff Jack Serier (Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, 425 Grove St, St. Paul, 55101) and Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo (350 South 5th Street, Room 130 Mpls, 55415-1389 ) decided not to send officers to a recent “Bullet Proof Training” for local law enforcement. Since the murder of Philando Castile, this training program which casts citizens as threats to police officers and not as partners in creating safe communities, has been controversial. In Friends for a NonViolent World’s evaluation, this training has the potential to cultivate a violent environment, especially for individuals and communities of color. Friends may wish to write letters of thanks to both offices.
