UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS

Mid-Morning Program next Sunday at 10:15: There have been more than twenty MFMers participating in Experiment with Light (EwL) meditation groups over the past year. EwL was developed by British Friend, Rex Ambler, based on early Friends’ experiences “experimenting with the Light.” Come learn how Light Groups are evolving and hear from a panel of EwL participants sharing their personal experiences. Curious about EwL? Interested in maybe joining a group? Come check it out!

The Quaker Voluntary Service board will be visiting the area NEXT WEEKEND, Oct 20th and 21st! Welcome and feed them at a potluck HERE at 6:30 Fri evening (the 20th) and then attend a fun-raiser (live music, food trucks and speakers) on Sat, 4-7 PM at Twin Cities Meeting (1725 Grand Ave in St. Paul.) Come add your energy and visit with the movers and shakers of QVS! A QVS House will open here in the fall of 2018 with six to eight fellows living, working, and worshiping in the Twin Cities area. The last Loaves & Fishes dinner of the year will be served at Holy Rosary Church, 2424 18th Av. S, Mpls, on Mon, Oct 30th. Volunteers needed to help prepare chili, salad, fruit, rolls (at 2pm); serve Phillips neighborhood guests (at 4:45pm); and clean-up (starting at 5:30pm). Please help if you have a few hours between 2 and 7PM. Come share in this service ministry with other Metro Friends. Fresh fruit donations for dessert are needed, too. Costumes welcome! The Watson reading group will gather at 7 PM THIS Tues, Oct. 17th, to read Out of the Silence: Quaker Perspectives on Pastoral Care and Counseling. No need to read ahead or to own the book; read aloud and discuss. One-timers and regulars welcome!

Lunch Bunch will meet at The Gardens, Presbyterian Homes, 10030 Newton Ave So , Bloomington, at 11:45 THIS Thurs, Oct. 19th. RSVP to Nancy by Tues, Oct 17th. If you are available in the middle of the day, consider coming! It’s a great opportunity to deepen relationships with and bring news to those unable to join worship every Sunday.

Spread your musical wings and play in semi-programmed worship! Musicians are needed to play a prelude and accompany hymns on third Sundays. Email Barbara if you would like to offer the ministry of music, one time or regularly.

In an effort to make sure members of the Ministry and Counsel Committee are accessible to members and attenders of Meeting, contact information for M&C members are available on the elevator table. Friends are encouraged to keep the list somewhere convenient should you need it.

OTHER HAPPENINGS AMONG QUAKERS

Twin Cities Meeting is having extended meetings for worship on Sat mornings in Oct, from 8:30 – 10:30 AM. These extended meetings for worship are similar in length to that experienced by early Friends.

Come to Friends School of MN to hear Drew Smith, Executive Director of Friends Council on Education (FCE), speak about Quaker Education and its relevance and importance in today’s world TODAY, 2-4pm (1365 Englewood Ave, St Paul).

Northern Yearly Meeting is still seeking a High School Coordinator to start Jan, 2018. The application deadline has been extended to Oct 20th. Duties in this paid position include: leading retreats; helping students find/participate in new experiences related to spiritual development, service, and leadership; sensitivity and intentionality in recognizing that some issues need to be referred to professional care. Friends Committee on National Legislation’s Quaker Public Policy Institute (QPPI) and Annual Meeting are Nov. 2-5. This has been a challenging year. Healing MN Stories Dakota Sacred Sites Tour: October 28, 10:00am – 2:00pm, Church of St. Peter, St. Paul. Visit sites located around confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, what the Dakota refer to as Bdote, or “meeting place of rivers,” including: Fort Snelling State Park, Dakota Internment Camp following the The Dakota-U.S. War, Pilot Knob Hill, a traditional burial ground. The Iraq American Reconciliation Project is partnering with the Guthrie Theater to present Birds Sing Differently Here Oct 27-29. Birds Sing Differently Here is a theater piece based on the true stories of twelve Iraqi-Minnesotan refugees and immigrants.
