The school year schedule with two meetings for worship will begin next Sunday, September 17.
The 17th will be a business meeting Sunday:

9:45-11:15 worship with attention to business
11:15-12:00 worship (semi-programmed) and first day school classes for children
Mid-morning program on Sept 24th at 10:15: the first program from Friends General Conference’s Spiritual Deepening Program – How we support each other.

The documentary, 13th, will be shown at 7PM on Wed, Sept 13th here at the meetinghouse. 13th explores the “intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States.” It is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime). 13th has garnered acclaim from film critics and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2016. The Watson reading group will gather Thur, Sept 21st, at 7 to read Out of the Silence: Quaker Perspectives on Pastoral Care and Counseling. No need to read ahead or to own a copy of the book; read aloud and discuss. You are welcome – whether you’re a one-timer or a regular!
SAVE THE DATES Oct 20th and 21st! when the Quaker Voluntary Service board will be visiting the area – potlucking it at
MFM 6:30 Fri evening (the 20th) and attending a getting-to-know-you blow-out (live music, food trucks and presentations!) on Sat, 4-7 PM at Twin Cities Meeting. Come add your energy and visit with the movers and shakers of QVS! There will be a QVS House opening here in the fall of 2018 with six to eight fellows living, working, and worshiping in the Twin Cities area. For more about QVS, see QuakerVoluntaryService.org.

OTHER HAPPENINGS AMONG QUAKERS
Friends School of MN Head of School Finalists Visit Three final candidates are visiting FSM. Friends are invited to meet them at evening community forums and share feedback with the Search Committee. Feedback will help inform the Search Committee’s discernment in making a recommendation to the School Committee. All forums are held at the FSM gym.

Northern Yearly Meeting seeks a high school youth coordinator, starting Jan, 2018. This is a paid position and duties include: leading retreats; helping students find/participate in new experiences related to spiritual development, service, and leadership; being sensitive and intentional in recognizing the need for some issues to be referred to pastoral or professional care. Heads Up: Northern Yearly Meeting Fall Interim Session will be held Friday night and Saturday, October 6-7, 2017 at Cannon Valley Friends Meetinghouse in Northfield, MN. Come gather with Friends, see the new meetinghouse, discern NYM business and hear committee reports in a lovely autumn setting. Friends School of Minnesota asks you to save Saturday evening, Nov 4th for the annual FSM Gala Silent Auction and Dinner! This year’s event will be held at Macalester College. Details to follow.
Friends World Committee for Consultation, Section of the Americas, is organizing a volunteer corps of Spanish- and English-speaking Friends to send as traveling ministers across Yearly Meeting lines and other divisions among Friends in the Americas. FWCC seeks Friends who express concerns that are deeply rooted in the Spirit and who can transcend differences and division to seek broader unity in the Light. Training, support, and accountability provided for those who are chosen. Funding is available to support the travel expenses. First round applications due by Sept 30. COMMUNITY EVENTS
The International Criminal Court: Advancing the Global Rule of Law, is being presented in honor of the International Day of Peace Thurs, Sept 21st, 6:45 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mpls. Though the U.S. had a prominent role in crafting the ICC, it has not signed the Rome Statute which would provide for its creation.
OFFICE HOURS
Pat Jones’ work week is Wed-Sun. She will be in the office Wed. from 1:00-4:00 and other times Wed, Thurs, Fri. and Sat. Carolyn VandenDolder, the Administrative Assistant, will be in Wed. – Fri. afternoons. Bulletin deadline, noon Thur.
