Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul, a holy place, a Divine Center, a speaking Voice, to which we may continuously return. Eternity is at our hearts, pressing upon our time-torn lives, warming us with intimations of an astounding destiny, calling us home unto Itself.
– Thomas Kelly, A Testament of Devotion
I’ve known rivers:
I’ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins.
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
– Langston Hughes
UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
You are welcome at the potluck TODAY at the rise of semi-programmed worship. Potlucks are do-it-yourself affairs. Look for ways to help the effort: refilling pitchers, restocking plates, silverware, napkins; clearing tables, washing and drying dishes, and putting away tables and chairs. Thanks Friends!
Next Sunday, worship with attention to business runs from 9:45-11:15.
Ministry and Counsel Committee will meet Oct 12 this month instead of the regular first Thursday night.
In an effort to make sure members of the Ministry and Counsel Committee are accessible to members and attenders of the Meeting, Ministry and Counsel Committee members and their contact information have been attached to the bulletin last week and today. Friends are encouraged to keep the list somewhere convenient should you need it.
Come one, come all, let’s Fall Together! The first ever Minneapolis Friends Fall Together is now only two weeks away. Come on October 14th for fun and refreshment at the lovely and convenient Fish Lake Park in Maple Grove. You can bring your bike or canoe, games, puzzles, and your own favorite mug. Check your email for the handy on-line registration, which includes an attachment of the brochure containing all the important details. Please, oh please register today! We want to know you’re coming! Registrations are due on or before next Sunday, October 8th. Questions, call Wina. The more the merrier! Everyone’s encouraged to come!
The Ministry and Counsel Committee is seeking feedback about your experience with the summer worship schedule. Feel free to speak with a member of the committee – Heidi, Nancy, Keitha, Terry, John, Sandy, Stephen, Carolyn — to tell them how worship this summer felt or fed you (or not.)
The Watson reading group will gather Tues, Oct. 17, at 7 to read Out of the Silence: Quaker Perspectives on Pastoral Care and Counseling. No need to read ahead or to own a copy of the book; read aloud and discuss. You are welcome – whether you’re a one-timer or a regular!
First Day School is growing! We rejoice in having children in the FDS program, and a growing program means we have an increasing need for teachers! Want to explore the ways you can support the Meeting’s ministry to children? Contact religious education coordinators, Sue or Julia.
SAVE THE DATES Oct 20th and 21st! when the Quaker Voluntary Service board will be visiting the area! Welcome and feed them at a potluck at MFM, 6:30 Fri evening (the 20th) and then attend a getting-to-know-you fun-raiser (live music, food trucks and speakers) on Sat, 4-7 PM at Twin Cities Meeting. Come add your energy and visit with the movers and shakers of QVS! Hosts are sought for visiting board members overnights Fri and Sat and breakfasts on Sat and Sun mornings. To host, contact the office. A QVS House will open here in the fall of 2018 with six to eight fellows living, working, and worshiping in the Twin Cities area. More at: QuakerVoluntaryService.org.
Pat Jones is now retired from her Meeting work as Director of Ministry.
If you did not read or hear her farewell remarks from September monthly meeting, you can read them on the Meeting’s website or find a copy posted on the bulletin board and a few on the table by the blue box.
Pat will be away from Meeting, for the most part, until sometime in the new year as she and Meeting adjust to this change.
Should you wish to contact her, Pat would prefer you use, in order of preference: 1) Facebook Messenger, 2) U.S. mail, 3) personal email, 4) home phone, listed in the directory. She may occasionally look at her minneapolisfriends.org/mfmpat email addresses, but it might only be monthly, if that. Please do not call Pat’s cell phone number. Carolyn, David, Tom, and John will use their discretion in calling Pat should they think she should be alerted in any way regarding Meeting matters. Otherwise, consider she is on sabbatical from all Meeting business.
Thanks for your understanding.
