UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
Children and adults are encouraged to participate in worship as much as they are able. If you anticipate needing to leave the meetingroom before the close of worship, please sit by a door to minimize disruption. ALSO, if you arrive before worship begins, consider leaving seats near the doors available to those who join worship late.
Pat’s retirement celebration, Sept 10, will soon be here! If you haven’t RSVPed to Rae Beth yet, please do! We need a count to order food. Gentle reminder: contributions to cover the cost of the celebration gratefully welcome! Make checks payable to MFM and write Pat’s retirement party on the memo line.
Autumn will soon be upon us. The Sunday morning schedules in Sept will be:
Sept 3rd: 10 AM worship (unprogrammed); potluck at 11:15
Sept 10th: 10 AM worship (semi-programmed); Pat’s retirement lunch at 11:15; celebration program at noon
Sept 17th is the return to two meetings for worship and first day school. The schedule on the 17th is:
9:00 – 9:45 AM worship (unprogrammed)
9:45-11:15 AM worship with attention to business
11:15-12:15 AM worship (semi-programmed) and first day school for children
Sept 24th: 9:00 – 10:00 AM worship (unprogrammed)
10:15-11:00 AM mid-morning program
11:15-12:15 AM worship (semi-programmed) and first day school for children
FALL CAMP CHANGE: due to unforeseen circumstance, we will not be returning to Camp Courage this autumn. But the Camp Committee has made a reservation at Fish Lake Pavilion (Fish Lake Park Reserve in Maple Grove) for Saturday, October 14th. Save October 14th to be with Friends!
The documentary, 13th, will be shown at 7PM on Wed, Sept 13th here at the meetinghouse. 13th explores the “intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States.” It is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime). 13th has garnered acclaim from film critics and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2016. There will be a Quaker Voluntary Service House opening in the fall of 2018 with six – eight fellows living, working, and worshiping in the Twin Cities area. SAVE THE DATES: Oct 20th and 21st! The QVS board will be visiting the area – potlucking it at MFM 6:30 Fri evening (the 20th) and attending a getting-to-know-you blow-out (live music, food trucks and presentations!) on Sat, 4-7 PM at Twin Cities Meeting. Northern Yearly Meeting seeks a high school youth coordinator, starting Jan, 2018. This is a paid position and duties include: leading retreats; helping students find/participate in new experiences related to spiritual development, service, and leadership; being sensitive and intentional in recognizing the need for some issues to be referred to pastoral or professional care. Heads Up: Northern Yearly Meeting Fall Interim Session will be held at Cannon Valley Friends Meetinghouse on October 6-7 in Northfield, MN.

Examining both real-life stories and precedent-setting legal cases, director Kamala Lopez uncovers how outdated and discriminatory attitudes inform and influence seemingly disparate issues, from workplace harassment to domestic violence, rape and sexual assault to the foster care system, and the healthcare conglomerate to the judicial system. She reveals the inadequacy of present laws that claim to protect women, ultimately presenting a compelling and persuasive argument for the urgency of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment.
