UPCOMING MEETING EVENTS
THANK YOU to the Property Committee and all who stayed to help make the meetinghouse sparkle last Sunday. Special thanks to those who brought such sustaining snacks!
Ministry and Counsel Committee will meet in the meetinghouse conference room at 7:00 on Thurs, July 13th, not this Thurs.
Children and youth are always welcome in meeting for worship. Friends should be mindful of the presence of young people who might be in worship in the summer months. Pray for vocal ministry that might be meaningful to them, and be sensitive to the inappropriate nature of some subjects.
The ad hoc Transition Committee offered a revised plan at June’s business meeting for the time immediately following Pat’s retirement at the end of September. Much of July’s worship with attention to business (NEXT SUNDAY) will be devoted to the ad hoc Transition Committee’s developing plan. Please consider and hold the current plan, as well as the Meeting, in prayer, and ask clarifying questions of the ad hoc Transition Committee members in advance of the July 9 business meeting. And plan to attend on July 9th as we discern our way forward. Committee members are: Roland, Renae, Maddi, Jeannette, Evelyn, and Tom.
Pat Jones’ Retirement Video: Pat has touched the hearts and lives of many here at the Meeting. Let’s tell her how much she means to us! Terry will video F(f)riends, individually or in a group, during the Sunday potlucks on July 2 and August 6. Thankful, sad, best wishes, the message is up to you. Please keep it short, 30 sec. to one minute. And practice your “special words” beforehand. This video will be shown at Pat’s retirement celebration and then will be given to her as a gift. If you are unable to be at the potlucks but would like to be included in the video, contact Terry to see if other arrangements can be made.
ALL ARE WELCOME! Daring and Delightful Dialogue Across Difference will have another gathering/practice session Sun, July 16th, at noon in the main meeting room. Newcomers welcome! Practice and prepare to host respectful and meaningful conversations with people holding different perspectives and opinions about issues facing us. For more, contact Jeff or Nettie.
Loaves and Fishes: Monday, July 31st is the next opportunity for MFM to help serve dinner to the people of the Phillips neighborhood at Holy Rosary Church, 2424 18th Av. S. Please help if you have a few hours between 1:30pm and 7pm that day. Volunteers sign up for shifts: chopping veggies or prepping dessert fruit 1:30‑4:30pm; serving food 4:45‑ 6:30pm; clean up 5:30‑7pm. Fresh fruit donations for dessert are needed, too. Put it on your calendar. Sign-up sheets available soon.
The use of the microphone in meeting for worship enables vocal ministry to be heard and held by all present. Microphone carriers are needed for a number of worship times this summer. Please consider signing up with Judith or Carol to provide this limited-in-scope but very important service to the Meeting.
There will be a Quaker Voluntary Service House opening in the fall of 2018 with six fellows living, working, and worshiping in the Twin Cities area. The QVS Working Group (representatives from Twin Cities Meeting, Prospect Hill Meeting, and Minneapolis Meeting) and the QVS National Support Committee are asking for your help. Job placements, working with underserved communities or other non-profit organizations, are needed for the fellows. Also sought are applicants for house coordinator – a half-time, paid, position working with the fellows and the placements agencies. If you have any ideas or leads for placement organizations or house coordinators, please send them to: Ed (MFM); Mary Ellen (TCFM); or Dan (PHFM). For more about QVS, see QuakerVoluntaryService.org.
