QVS: Boldly and deeply Quaker – grounded in worship, forming leadership for the present and the future of Friends. Passionately engaged in service and social justice – both helping change the world and being transformed together through the experience. Practicing radical hospitality and inclusiveness – with one another and in the community, following the ministry and message of Jesus. This is the vision and the unfolding mission of Quaker Voluntary Service.
Please take advantage of the wonderful opportunity this visit affords us to understand and build enthusiasm for QVS!

This is the first to two programs sponsored by Liaison and Review to help Minneapolis Meeting as we prepare for Pat’s retirement. The second program will be Nov 20th and will include a few Friends speaking about how various Meetings in the U.S. organize work and ministry, with or without staff, at the monthly meeting level.
Ministry and Counsel Committee will meet here this coming Thursday at 7 in the conference room.
Nominating Committee will meet at the Snyder’s home at Kenwood Isles this coming Friday at 4.
There will be four more opportunities to experience the Experiment with Light meditation based on early Friends’ experiences in the silence and introduced to contemporary Friends by Rex Ambler: Wed. evenings, Nov. 2nd (THIS WED!) and Dec. 7th, starting at 7PM; and Sat. afternoons, Nov. 12th and Dec. 10th, starting at 1:30 PM – all at the meetinghouse. The weather is cooling and that means Quaker thoughts turn to . . . the Friends for a NonViolent World Holiday Fair! Minneapolis Meeting is again the site for this annual community event / fundraiser on Dec 2nd (1-9 ) and Dec 3rd (10-4). There’s still time to craft items, cull through your personal library for the book loft sale, plan baked goods to sell or for the Friendly Café, and block out time to help with set-up, staffing the fair, or cleaning up afterward! This is a lovely opportunity for community, great music, meeting old friends and making new ones, purchasing beautiful crafts as gifts, and enjoying tasty homemade food – all while benefitting FNVW. Lend your talents then bring a friend and enjoy the ambiance!

From Friends Committee on National Legislation: President Obama invoked the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force to launch airstrikes in Libya. This law has allowed two presidents to take military action around the world. In Jan 2017, it could continue and give our next president the power, alone, to wage war. The president, acting alone, has yielded: special ops in 150 countries; drone strikes with countless civilian deaths; warrantless surveillance of Americans; indefinite detention in Guantanamo Bay. For more, google “FCNL Questions for Candidates: Endless War”.
Friends Committee on National Legislation Annual Meeting and Lobby Day: Join FCNL in Washington, DC Nov 10-13 for the Annual Meeting and Lobby Day. Come participate in this Spirit-led work of setting our legislative priorities for the next Congress, fellowship, and worship. Registration is now open at fcnl.org/annualmeeting.
