The White Envelope Gift, a long tradition at Minneapolis Friends Meeting, is a special Christmastime offering that is designated for one-time gifts. We are celebrating this gift the Sunday before Christmas, December 22.
Lectio Divina (Divine Reading) is a method of reading and listening deeply. It draws out ways in which a text may speak to us today. You are invited to join in worship sharing lectio based on a biblical text at 11:30-noon on Wednesdays, December 4 and 11, Kenwood Isles. Light lunch to follow. For more information, phone Stephen or Mary.
At 6:30pm, Monday, December 9, anyone interested in what we, as a meeting, might do next regarding climate change is invited to Kenwood Isles. The agenda will be wild, unfocused discussion over a soup supper followed by a lengthy silence. We will make offerings of what we might do out of the silence. Need more information? Call Mary or Stephen.
The George and Elizabeth Watson Memorial Discussion Group will meet on Wed, Dec 11, at 7:00 at the meetinghouse. ALL are welcome. There is no homework. We are reading Letters to a Young Seeker by Steve Chase.
Two requests from Peace and Social Concerns: 1) a willing volunteer to investigate the Duluth/Superior Meeting’s request that we join them in protesting the new taconite mine in Wisconsin, and 2) someone willing to explore the opportunity to be the meeting representative to Right Sharing of the World’s Resources… Anyone interested in either of these can contact Nancy, Roland, or Ranae.
The Friendly Philosophers meet every first Sunday of the month (like today), here, at 10:15 and every Thursday night, 7 PM at Bush Terrace Condos: 4014 – 15th Ave. So, Mpls.
Mayim Rabim Congregation will hold its fourth annual Human Rights Shabbat on Fri, Dec 13, from 6:00-8:30 PM. All are welcome to attend and join in the dialogue. The program will include a brief service welcoming the Sabbath as well as a participatory conversation about how we can maintain hope in a world in need of much healing and how to choose where to focus our energy toward change. Members of both congregations will share their own stories and journeys as a preface to this important discussion. A dairy vegetarian potluck dinner and continued conversations will follow. Bring a dish to share if you can; regardless, please stay and share the meal.
Offering boxes are located on small tables near the meetingroom doors. Average contributions of $9,725 per month ($2,431 per week) are needed to meet our budget. In November, $8,164.30 was contributed to the general budget; an average of $2,041.08 per week. The winter quarter contributions historically have covered 40% of the budget. Thank you, Friends, for your generous support of the Meeting in all manner of ways.
