MEETING MATTERS / CALENDAR
Next week, all are welcome to the monthly Sunday potluck lunch. To regulars, please bring plenty of food so there will be ample to accommodate visitors and those at the end of the line. Also, please label your pot-luck item/s with ingredients or your name so those with allergies, salt restrictions, vegetarians, etc can participate. Particularly to be noted, peanuts (walnut, cashew, etc), salt, meat, poultry, milk, soy, onions, garlic, eggs, fish, shellfish, corn, corn products and wheat.
Next Sunday at 10:15: Lisa First will speak about her experiences growing up in the South in the 60’s with Civil Rights Work parents from MI; her work in Russia and Eastern Europe with regard to Racism and introducing new perspectives through Link Vostok; and her long time work with Racial Justice training through the YWCA.
Come to Fall Camp! Fall Camp is for everyone – come for all or part of the weekend, Oct. 19-20! Registration forms should be returned by Thurs, Oct. 3rd (there’s a box on the hall table or mail to the meetinghouse.) Let’s have the biggest turn-out EVER for this new Fall Camp experience!

Volunteers still needed for Loaves and Fishes (especially cooks and dessert-bringers!): tomorrow, Mon, Sept. 30th, Holy Rosary Church, 2424 – 18th Ave So. Shifts: 2:30-4:30, cooking; 4:45-6:45, serving; 5:30-7:00, clean-up. Also needed, 20 batches of cookies / nutritious dessert donations (fresh fruit, peanut butter bars, oatmeal raisin cookies – 4 dozen to a batch), delivered to the meetinghouse TODAY, or brought to Holy Rosary by 5:00 on the 30th.
If you are new to the Meeting and Quakerism, we hope you will be able to attend Quaker Quest sessions, running Tuesday nights beginning Oct 15 and Sun afternoons, beginning Nov 3. Bring any friends who are interested in “sampling” Quakerism!
All Friends are welcome at the Quaker Quest sessions but you should not feel obligated to come. The primary goal of Quaker Quest is to introduce Minneapolis Friends Meeting and Quakerism to new people.
Exploring Together: Quaker Meetings and Friends Schools, a new pilot program to guide Meetings in ways to welcome newcomers from a Friends school community, will hold a training session in preparation for a winter event at Twin Cities Friends Meeting on Sat, Oct 12th, 9:30-3:30. We need 10-12 MFM members and attenders to be part of the effort of welcoming Friends School families to local Quaker meetings. Green flyers have more info!
Friendly Philosophers will not meet today. Starting next week the group will meet on first Sundays at 10:15 in the lower level and on Thurs evenings at Gib’s home.
Northern Yearly Meeting retreats for older Quaker youth have been scheduled: The first Middle School retreat (for grades 6, 7 and 8) is planned for Oct 4-6 at Camp Woodbrooke, Richland Center, WI. The first High School retreat will be Oct 25-27 at Camp Woodbrooke, Richland Center, WI.

Offering boxes are located on small tables near the meetingroom doors. Average contributions of $9,725 per month ($2,431 per week) are needed to meet our budget. Prospect Hill Friends Meeting invite Friends to a discussion on “Climate Disruption: What Can Quaker Meetings Do?” Fri, Oct. 18th at Twin Cities Friends Meeting. Suzanne Joy Curran will share from the workshop she attended at Friends General Conference this summer. All area Quakers are invited. Potluck at 6:15 followed by discussion.
US Troops and drones Out of Afghanistan NOW: after twelve years, the US war in Afghanistan is now the longest war in US history. Despite statements of withdrawing troops by the end of 2014, plans are being made to leave thousands of US troops, contractors and drones in Afghanistan for many years to come. Mark twelve years of war with a call for US troops and drones to be brought home NOW – Sat, Oc 5, 1-2 PM, Lake Street and Hiawatha Ave. Bring signs and banners!
