MEETING MATTERS / CALENDAR
Monthly meeting for business is next week, August 11th, at 11:00. Two items are awaiting approval:
– the new Peace and Social Concerns Committee description and
– the minute on The Affirmation of God in All Family-Types and Individuals. Both can be found on the website at: minneapolisfriends.org/category/business-minutes/ Paper copies are available on the bulletin table.
Save the date – Sunday, September 8, for a preliminary Quaker Quest session from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm! The regular meeting for worship will be suspended that day, but worship is incorporated into the day’s plan. The session is for the whole Meeting, for everyone, and promises to be fun and personally enriching, and to strengthen our community and prepare us for the public sessions we will offer in the fall. It’s a busy autumn but mark your calendars now for the Northern Yearly Meeting Fall Interim Session – November 1-2 in Eau Claire, WI. More details will follow on how and who to contact for hospitality and agenda.
The 44th block of York is having a block party for National Night Out. Friends are invited to come and meet / greet our meetinghouse neighbors – August 6 (rain date, August 7) 5:30 onward, potluck.
The Quaker memorial service for Rosalie Wahl will be 2:00, Sat, Aug 24, at the Weyerhauser Chapel on the Macalester campus followed by light refreshments at Twin Cities Friends Meeting around 3:30 pm. A public memorial will be 10 AM, Sat, Sept 21 at Central Lutheran Church. A couple of poems and two speeches – one delivered shortly after she was appointed to the MN Supreme Court and another from the FGC Gathering in 1980 – can be found: bit.ly/RosalieWahl-FJ
Offering boxes are located on small tables near the meetingroom doors. Average contributions of $9,725 per month ($2431 per week) are needed to meet our budget. In July, $5544.09 was contributed to the general budget; an average of $1386 per week.

People Camp, a program of Friends for a Non-Violent World, is an experience of cooperation, community living, and exploration of ideas and issues – for adults, teens, and children. Mark you calendars now for a fund-raising concert being featuring Annie and Peter Blood-Patterson, musicians and song-writers, widely known for their creation of the compilation songbook, “Rise up Singing.” The concert will be at the meeting house of Twin Cities Friends Meeting (1725 Grand Ave, St. Paul) September 7 at 7:00 PM. A $20 donation requested, (more if you can/less if you can’t!!) Proceeds will cover Annie and Peter’s expenses with the balance going to Friends for a NonViolent World (FNVW). The evening promises to be one of great music and fellowship!
Our Muslim neighbors are hosting a series of open houses at area mosques during Ramadan. the month in which Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset to learn compassion, self-restraint and generosity.
