MEETING MATTERS / CALENDAR
Next week, come to the monthly Sunday potluck lunch! Please bring plenty of food so there will be ample to accommodate visitors and those at the end of the line. Also, please label your pot-luck item/s with ingredients or your name so those with allergies, vegetarians, etc can participate. Particularly to be noted, peanuts, tree nuts (walnut, cashew, etc), meat, poultry, milk, soy, onions, garlic, eggs, fish, shellfish, corn, corn products and wheat.

Next Sunday at 10:15: 3 options: 1) journaling will meet in the large classroom downstairs 2) the George Watson Memorial Reading and Discussion Group, with John Stuart, will meet in the conference room. 3) Heidi Flores and Ranae Hanson will speak in the meetingroom, then dialogue about their work:, rewards and challenges, how it relates to racism.

Prophets and Puppets, a new series, will start in First Day School next week, October 7. We are seeking donations of supplies for the creation of giant puppets. Needed: old sheets, fairly light bedspreads or just large pieces of material for robes, yarn for hair, and misc. stuff for head bands. Please bring donations to the meetinghouse by Oct 14. –Mary Snyder

Metro Friends coordinating committee will host a Fall Family Folk Dance for area Quakers, here at MFM on Sat, Oct 13. Quaker Family Band will provide live music. Potluck at 5:00; program (Friends School students’ video on the marriage amendment along with a few words from Liz Oppenheimer) at 6:15; dance 7:30.

Come one, come all, to Fall Camp! Our Meeting has enjoyed nigh on 60 years of this wonderful tradition. We will be gathering at Camp Courage on Oct. 20 and 21 for fellowship and refreshment, staying in beautiful cabins in the Lakeside area. Whether you’ve come many times or never, it will be a new experience! Enjoy Quaker Quest as well as old favorites – swimming, campfire, variety show, nature walk, stargazing, hymn sing – AND, meals are now prepared (and cleaned up!) by Camp Courage staff. It’s like spa treatment! Everyone is welcome for all or part of camp – just don’t miss this only-once-a-year event! Friends for a Non-Violent World House Party Fundraiser – great food, fellowship and interesting speakers, this Friday, Oct 5, 5:30 at the home of Gail Daneker and Ian Keith, 1791 Dayton Ave. (between Marshall and Selby/Fairview and Wheeler) in St. Paul. Speakers: Daniel Wordsworth, American Refugee Committee; Tom Trow, Twin Cities Public Television; Norman Peoples, Alternatives to Violence Project; Nathan Ness, MN Arms Spending Alternatives Project; Juliana Keen, MN United for All Families. Suggested $25 contribution (more if you can/less if you can’t).

Paul Landskroener will lead a course in Quakerism 101 in five sessions on Thursday evenings from Oct 11 through Nov 8 at 7 pm at Twin Cities Friends Meeting, 1725 Grand Av, St. Paul. The course will cover basic Quaker doctrines, worship and ministry, witness and testimonies, and history and organization. The course is designed to be useful to those new to or exploring Friends as well as for long-time Friends who want to know more about Quaker basics. All area Friends are invited. Madison Monthly Meeting is hosting a Friends World Committee on Consultation “Let the Living Waters Flow: Friends Serving God’s Purposes” event on Nov. 10 and 11. The guest speaker will be Brian Young, pastor of Berkeley, CA, Friends Church. Some overnight hospitality is available. Please talk to Pat if you want to go.

A film, Love Free or Die, will be shown here on Sat., Oct. 27, at 7:00. The film engages the viewer in the life, risks, and courage of Gene Robinson, the first gay bishop of the Episcopalian Church in America to be elected archbishop.
